I try to comment as much as possible but I usually read completed stories and I'd feel really foolish for commenting on something that is already done with and completed but I still recommend them if I like them.

Talking about filler chapters, I know what you mean.

I think it can sometimes be easier to fall into being a silent reader then one might think.
I like to think I don't do it, ever. I don't like when I have 3x as many subscribers to something vs. the number of readers each chapter. It's irritating. I want some feedback, dammit! But there have been stories I've read and I've simply not had the time, or haven't been in the right state of mind, to have left a comment. Which is horrible, I know I know. It's just so easy to do sometimes, when you're really not in the mood or when it's one of those filler chapters and there's not a lot to comment on.

Exactly! The lack of responses are just plain disheartening to a writer. I am speaking as a person who has deleted and given up on stories because of the ghosts. I write because I love it and it's a very large part of who I am. I post on Mibba for feedback, and putting my work out there has never come easily to me.

I've tried it all too- begging, rewarding- anything I could think of. I once made a silly sarcastic comment about the lack of comments in an author's note- and do you know what happened? Suddenly, those ghosts grew fingers and I got some comments. Not very nice ones, and I ended up deleting the story. Even comment-swap was a let-down after the shiny newness wore off.

I am currently down to one active story, because it remains to be fairly sucessful and because I've invested so much of my time on it.

I hope everyone reads this blog, and maybe some will even take the time to repost their thoughts on this topic as well. Perhaps it will open some eyes and minds, perhaps not.

Yes I used to beg too. Now I'd rather just make whoever quietly reads happy but I'd appreciate a comment every now and then.

It happens to all of us...well most of us...I've tried promoting my stories, I've done the begging for comments, but hasn't worked for me. It does suck when you have 100 people that read an update, and only one or two people comment. I'm guilty of being a silent reader, although I don't read very many stories here anymore. I read mostly A7X fanfiction, so I'm reading them off of the A7XFF site, and still not very many. I barely have time to write my own stories, let alone subscribe and read others.

I've given up on begging for comments though, because it doesn't really work, and I don't like people who are "gimme 15 comments and I'll update" because that just turns me off from the story alltogether.

I completely agree, I really don't like ghost readers and I try to comment on every story i read and recommend it if I knew my friends will like it. I write stories and I always write at the end "PLease comment if your a ghost reader I wanna know if you like it."

I totally agree with you if I like something I at least subscribe and recommend. I comment normally... sometimes when I see a flaw of something that could help the writer if they need it but it ultimate likely sucks when their is so many ghost readers who haven't gave some effert to just recommend not to mention comment. I agree also people these days are so damn lazy

I agree with xMandiblesx. It annoys me though because I'm only working on one story and I personally would love to know that someone else besides me and two of my friends like it.

I think people in today's society are just down right lazy lol. If they have to do more than click a single button, then it's too hard for them. =P

I totally agree with you. I always try to make a point in commenting on a story, and if I like a story I will recommend it.

I suppose a good case in question is one of my stories which has about 140 subrscribers but I get comments from the same 10-15 people. I love these guys but it does get a little frustating that there's well over 130 people who aren't commenting.

I totally agree with it. I'm the type of person who feels like if I'm going to sit there through reading someone's piece, then I should at least comment. Hell, I even comment back when people leave me comments.

I actually just read a story of yours.
I understand what you mean though. I don't get many comments on my stories anymore. I know people subscribe, but a lot of them don't seem to comment at all. If I like something I try to comment or at least recommend stories if i like them.

    @ jeremy renner.
It sucks right? I would love it if the norm of this website would be to encourage each other more often. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

    I know you're frustration.
I too recommend at the very least.

When I do comment I try to either point out a mistake I saw or I say something I like.
But I don't read as much as I used too, but I know how it feels to see many subscribers and recommendations, but like no comments. It's annoying, but unfortunately how it is.
