Not liking a layout is one thing, but when the writer makes it impossible to read, that just... it hurts xD

I don't think I'm that bad at making layouts and even if others don't like them, if I like them I keep them. It all comes down to if I like my work and I'm pleased with it. :)

I once encountered a writing contest where the author would desqualify anyone who didn't have a pretty layout. True story.

This is obviously a joke. I'm not bashing stories that are like I described, I'm just describing what goes on around here. My story about M Shadows got a shitload of readers while my other stories about other things get, like, 5. The quality is the same, the popularity isn't. About layouts, I like pretty layouts, too, but I don't understand why some people click on a story and immediately give up because they don't like the layout. You can change it to default layout if you don't like the colors or whatever, you shouldn't just give up on a potentially good story just because the layout doesn't suit your liking

Congratulations for your block. You seriously got me thinking for a moment you were serious and I was ready to give you a piece of my mind but I as I went on reading I realized you weren't. You described most stories on here for what they really are. *high five* I have to say though that most fan fiction writers when they post their first story, they do as you said as a first easy experience and then move on to other plots. As for original fics, when the first time to write a story comes, they pick school, innocent or filled with sex stories (like I started, lol) [And yes, I admit it]. As for layouts, I always use what I like and the story's title, I prefer them as they would be if they were published novels. I'm gonna shut up now cause I'm ranting. :P
