I personally don't see it as being bad, but others may. I think if people stopped looking at things as normal and not normal, but rather as just different ways of living life and leave it at that, it doesn't mean it would be any less interesting, but because of the definition of normal, the meaning society has put behind it, people (not saying all, but some) will frown upon what the others do in their lives. I'm mainly trying to say that getting rid of societies meaning of normal will begin to eliminate that judgmental side of normalcy, at least I think it would, and would be more helpful to society. Not saying people would no longer judge anything, but they wouldn't be so judgmental against how someone lives their life, what they for work, etc. No one has to agree with my thoughts and I'm fine with that, all I wanted to do with this blog post, whatever you want to call it, was to let my thoughts on normalcy be known. Hope this made sense.

You seem to associate not being normal with bad. Being unconventional in the right ways is good. It's why people like those Freakshow people have jobs and are on TV. If everything was normal it wouldn't be very interesting. Contrast from normal, for entertainment and things like that are good things.

Okay so I'm really sorry for the way my reply has been. I was on my phone before, it kept messing up, and I continued to hit send before I meant to.

As I was saying... Without Normal I don't think that everyone would be breaking laws or anything like that. Our laws are set more on what people see as right and wrong. And without normal I don't think that would really change. I wasn't saying that getting rid of what is normal would mean that murder, stealing, or any other law would be okay. I just believe that if there was no normal, people wouldn't feel out of place in the world. They wouldn't feel like everyone is judging them because they are a little unusual. I don't think getting rid of the word normal would really have any affect on our laws, and if they did, it wouldn't be that drastic and wouldn't cause everything to be fucked at all. It would just make life easier to deal with without the constant thought of being judged if you do something differently in life.

Sorry i accidently hit submit before i was done.

They do stuff everyone else does, they just have a different line of work.

As for everything being fucked up. It's not that great now. because we have societal norms, there are times when people will shun others because they aren't "normal". I think you ended up going more into morality, right and wrong, which is venturing off topic. Without normal I don't think everyone

Sorry it has taken so long to respond, school has been crazy these past few weeks.

Okay, you're saying that they aren't normal because they have a different way of entertaining people. That's just it, theyre different. They pride themselves on their different means of entertaining. They live a similar life to every other "normal" person though. They eat together like a family, shop, go skating, etc.

Well I don't call them normal for the most part because what they do is a very unconventional form of entertainment. I've never watched the show personally but I get the gist. Their day to day normal is very different to the majority's version of normal, and that dictates what normal is to most.

And everything would be fucked up because if we didn't have a basis of what's acceptable and normal, there'd be no moderation. Most of our laws and accepted behaviour are based on what we consider acceptable and normal. It's okay for the individual but if everyone, good or bad could do whatever they wanted with no social consequences, we'd have trouble.

Okay I see where your coming from, don't necessarily agree, but I understand. My questions are, first, why wouldn't you call Freakshow people normal? And second, how would everything be "fucked up"?

I wouldn't call freakshow people normal. There is a standard of normal, it varies with different cultures but every culture has their societal norms. Most of them are there for a good reason, it makes everything run smoothly. Personality traits are really a small thing in the grand scheme of things. One person swallowing swords isn't conventional, but it doesn't disrupt the norm of the greater society.

So on a small scale, normal isn't as much as an important thing as it is when you're talking about an entire culture of society. Society having norms is a good thing. Otherwise everything would be pretty fucked up.
