The summary is the first thing I judge on a story. If it has terrible grammar and has a cliche plot, I would instantly close the tab. I would read a story with a shitty layout and a terrible banner if the summary actually match my expectations. I mean, there is the default layout button if I don't want to go blind. I actually found some pretty good stories with crappy bright layouts.

I also don't like summaries when they just put a song lyric, a picture or a disclaimer. That's it. With no insight of what the story might be about. I want to know if the story is actually worth my time reading it, thank you very much.

I judge stories so hard on the summary and layout. If it's fluro fucking pink with an orange background and a 8473298472304 word summary, I'm so out. You don't need to be an artist or good at color schemes to know that basic, subtle layouts work. Don't make it look like a 12 year old went crazy with paint.

I fully argee with this blog. I can't read stories so I'll leave a comment telling the author to change their layout :/

I usually try to stick with black font, I don't change it unless my background or something is black; I do mess up occasionally but at least my layouts aren't like some of the others I've seen T-T

Its not even just the bright layouts, some layouts have like a really dark background/theme with dark writing, like "dude, I shouldn't be struggling to read your story!" What you're saying is true though.

omg this is hilariously accurate. I don't read stories that have shit layouts. AND I CANNOT STAND SUMMARIES THAT JUST SAY "I SUCK AT SUMMARIES BUT PLEASE GIVE ME A CHANCE" like fuck no I will not give you a chance. do better, and maybe I will.

Hahaha, you're awesome. I totally agree, bad layouts are the worst! I'm not exactly picasso either, but I don't think my layouts are too bad.

I actually haven't seen stories with horrible layouts on here for a while, but I agree.

& bad grammar is always a no-no for me; that's what beta readers are for.

I suck at summaries on the actual story page so I'll opt for song lyrics & my disclaimer lolwhat.
