You'll get sick if you don't, our funerals are all night long they used to be 3 to 4 days but ppl got lazy and shortened them.
And we cremate the bodies so I think it has to do with the ashes.

    @ nancy drew.
Oh we can't whistle at night it brings spirts

    @ sempiternal.
last one creeped me out, here a cold chill means theres a ghost around.

I live in Greece and here's what my mom says:
-Don't cut your nails at night (it brings bad luck)
-Cut your hair only when the moon is on the sky (they grow quicker)
-If you have any elephant statues make them look towards the house door (so that only good people enter the house)
-Tell your dreams only when the sun is on the sky (bad dream come tru at night)
-When a deceased loved one visits you in a dream DO NOT LET THEM TAKE YOU WITH THEM. (it means you'll end up with them)
-Be extra careful with the mirrors (if they break 7 years bad luck)
-Don't take long baths when you ar eon your period (you won't be able to have kids when you grow up)
-If you dream of fish, something's gonna happen.
-No red lipstic or red nails (only whores do that)
-Don't open umbrellas inside the house
-Don't sleep with your hands crossed
    I think these are all,lol

I just live in the Southern part of the US (Kentucky, to be exact). We have some strange little things like that. tehe

    • Don't walk around with only one shoe on.
    • Don't open an umbrella inside.
    • Don't shake hands at church during flu season. XD
    • Don't wear red lipstick (oops) or if you're a woman, don't smoke. (My great grandmother said that only 'whores' and I mean prostitutes by that wore red lipstick or smoked. Like, that's how men picked them out.)
    • If you dream of fish, someone will be pregnant.
    • If you dream of someone being pregnant, someone is going to die.
    • if you get a cold chill, someone was walking over your grave.

I'm ethnically/racially indigenous Fijian. We have a couple the same.

    1. It is extremely, extremely (seriously people used to be killed for this before Fiji found Jesus) rude to stand at full height, or reach above or much less touch someone on the head.

    2. Do not make plans (aloud) at night. Spirits will hear and intervene.

    3. Make sure to wash the salt off your body when you come back from the sea. Ocean spirits will follow the smell of the salt and eat you if you don't (no joking haha).

There are loads more but they differ according to provinces and districts across the country so yeah.

As someone who is Chamorro, we share some beliefs that are based on spirits / ghosts. Shifty

Some of our traditional beliefs are:
    1. If you go to the boonies (jungle / forest), then ask permission from the spirits to enter. . .and don't be disrespectful and take what you want. Or you'll get sick.
    2. The suruhanu/a (witch doctor) will heal you if you do get sick or marked and be able to identify (for the most part) what spirit made you sick. And they'll give you the herbal medicine for it and tell you to apologize, possibly.
    3. Don't EVER cut down taotaomona trees. You will get sick.
    4. Don't be playing around where white lady bridges are. And if you see one, do not stare at her.
Pretty much, do not disrespect the spirits and nature. Just don't. :3

It's insane how beliefs in other nations are different, but similar at the same time.
Oh, and you cannot cry when you go hunting when someone shoots an animal. Because it's our food. lol.

    Oh u just reminded me!
If a owl speaks u have to listened to what it says, one phrase they say in indian is "I am hungry" the other is informing u someone will die.

If its a white owl it's bad.

And if a bird hits the window it means death.

It makes me happy to meet you too! ^.^

OH, and if a Woodpecker pecks on your house, you have to kill it. Or else a family member will pass away. It's so scary.. luckily that never happened to us. XD

But seriously, you're the actual first native Mibbian that I've met. This makes me happy.

This is so interesting! The only thing I remember my parents every telling me is that if I don't dress up like something every Halloween the spirits roaming around will take me back with them.

    OMG, A FELLOW NATIVE AMERICAN!
You're the first one I've come across on Mibba. Crazy

For us, it's when a deceased loved one talks to you in your dream, you can't answer. Either that, or if they hold out their hand to you.

The ghost bothering you is true for us as well.

We also have a lot of rules when we're pregnant, like.. You can't watch horror movies, you can't drink out of a bottle, you can't cut your hair. You can't laugh/make fun of people. If you see a dead person (funeral) your baby will be blind, or have bad eye sight. There is a lot.

If you dream about being pregnant, someone in your family is pregnant, or will be soon.

When an animal talks to you in your dream, you cannot tell anyone about it.

If an animal chases you, and catches you, or runs into you, in a dream you have to tell someone and get medicine help.

    Long hair = Long wings.

Yeah, we've been told quite a bit while growing up as well, I believe all of them. Elders are usually legit. XD
