I started writing fanfiction in 2006/2007. I was in middle school. Now I'm in college and my writing dropped off a bit during high school. I think what's the most difficult part of taking a hiatus isn't that your followers/subscribers leave you, but that at some point a bunch more people start writing and the audience for readers shrinks, so it's harder to get new followers. Especially if you're like me and live for comments/reviews.

My best advice is to start working on rewriting what you want to rewrite. You can finish the whole thing before republishing it, if you so desired. Or do a bunch of chapters in advanced and post them weekly/whatever you see fit, so that your readers know you're doing something. In this, I think, you'll get the inspiration you need for your Batman story.

Personally, my biggest thing is that I used to be really involved in fanfiction.net and I constantly got asked to review stories, and now that there's far less people reading and no one to review my stories/too many wtf shitty stories out there, it's hard to rebuild a base for your own stories and for seeking out others' stories.
