@mika; Art therapy is pretty much doing art to help you work through whatever is going on. I don't know how to explain it really well so I would suggest googling it.
That is awesome! Congrats! Getting into a great school with the program you want is always awesome! Has for my dream I want to be a counselor specializing in art therapy and addiction counseling. I'm almost done with my associates degree in addiction counseling and then I'm going to do the veteran's counseling certificate offered at my community college and then hopefully i'll get into a four year school so I can get at least a bachelor's. My dream is to be able to work in art therapy!
@ Deus Ex Machina Holy crap that's cool. I haven't been on Kickstarter but it's clearly something I'm going to have to look into! I've heard of stuff similar to it but I didn't know they had something quite that sophisticated. And we are. Some of us are just built for science :)
@ mika; Yes, and we're surprisingly good at it! I'm not sure if you've been on Kickstarter but there's this new wireless EEG machine called the Emotiv Insight that reads your brain waves and allows you to send commands to various applications using your mind. You can track your stress levels and more throughout the day. It can even sense what facial expression you're making just by reading your brain waves. It's going to be $200 and will be released next year. VERY cool stuff.
@ Deus Ex Machina I'm shooting for neuroscience- it's the most interesting thing out there! in my opinion. And I want to get a job where I won't have to worry about debt anyhow. And I know! Most of my friends are doing graphic design, or history, or english. I love all of those too, but I agree, it's a rarity. Science and math and stuff need more women.
@ mika; If you're getting letters from BU I think you'll be set. Granted, if you become a neuroscientist those student loans won't mean a damn thing to you. I'm going for veterinary. That's awesome; I'm really glad to see that. It's a breath of fresh air when you see a lot of other girls going the traditional route: teaching, English, philosophy. Not that there's anything wrong with those majors, but... well, we are becoming a rarity in our field.
@ Deus Ex Machina I'm hoping for a lot of scholarships! Admittedly if it falls out, I have another good university lined up that I would get two years of tuition paid for. My aunt did say that if I'm able to go to Boston, she knows someone in the area who would be able to house me. What did/are you majoring in? I love the human body, always have, and I love science. Thanks!
Hopefully they like you enough to load you up on financial aid because it's $61k a year to live on campus. They wanted me but I had to turn them down because I could get a quality education much cheaper at a state school. Still, that's a tremendous achievement for such a university to be interested in you! I hope it works out for you. :) It's always nice to see another female in a STEM field.
Oh, that's pretty cool. I think they mentioned it in my psychology class.
