I think you're expecting too much too soon. I've just checked out your profile, and everything you've updated has been within the past two days. Getting feedback will take time. You can't just expect loads of subscribers and comments within such a short space of time. The story of mine I mentioned in my previous comment took ages to grab anyone's attention. And writing shouldn't be about gaining readers, you should write for you. There's another story I have that I don't think will gain many readers at all, but I will write it anyway because I want it written.
And as for commenting after each chapter so that you know what worked and what didn't - if someone was to simply comment "update!!" you still aren't gonna know what worked and what didn't. If someone has subscribed to your story or recommended it, you already know they like it.

Oh no, this site is good for what it's made for. I've been watching and reading things over my friends shoulder for a while now. I know how it goes. =]

As far as silent reading goes I've seen tons of people make up for them, even some of them go beyond the limit of making up for it. I'm just nervous to post my stuff. I'm published (as far as being in my high school's library) but other than that I'm not so sure. It's been a long time since I was in high school. haha.

Cool Oh I know me too but don't be discouraged by it because not everyone is like that. Some people are though, but I am not so don't worry I do read and leave comments because that is just me. This is a good site, I don't want you to get the impression that it is not.

I haven't posted any of my work on here yet, or gotten to write anything new that so many awesome people have suggested, but I worry about this. My friend is the one who got me in to this site, and she has a lot of people who read and comment for her, but she says there are a lot of silent readers too. I agree with you, having someone comment, even if only to tell you what the liked or how they think the story is coming, is much better than a comment at the end. It's discouraging to come to a site where you WANT feedback so you can better yourself, and yet NO ONE will help you get that feedback.

I understand, and I side with you. Silent readers can be a bummer.

No I wouldn't because my case is different from yours no one is subscribing to my stories but they are reading it, so no subscriptions plus no comments, will give me no reason to update my storie, because there would be np point, and I like comments after every chapter because I can figure out what worked in that chapter and what didn't. And if you were to leave a comment after the end of the book, I would have to try and figure what you were talking about by going back to each chapter and reading it over and that would just be tiresome. Plus Silent readers don't just apply to my stories but also my poems, because their being read and I have no clue what anyone thinks of it, because again silence.

And let's be honest, wouldn't you much rather a long meaningful insightful comment once the story is over, instead of after each chapter someone saying 'update now!!' because that's just as good as no comments as well.

A part of me agrees with this, because of course I like getting comments as well - everybody does. But I rarely comment on stories, unless I have something to say. Mostly, I wait until the story has ended then I will leave one long message. But people shouldn't have to comment just because you want them to. Yes, it's a little frustrating that I have 150 subs for one story but am lucky if I get five comments for each chapter I write. But it doesn't really bother me, just knowing that people ARE reading is enough. If I see my subs go up by 1, then that's enough for me really.
