I'm not a huge fan of bands like PTV or anything, but I don't mind them. I'm more into alternative indie bands, I guess. But a few years ago I went through a really hard time and One Direction sort of helped me get through it and I've been with them ever since. Some people are just too close-minded to understand that people can listen to whatever they want to and no genre of music is really better than others.

Oh, how I just know this! I'm a huge fan of bands like Five Finger Death Punch, Bring Me The Horizon to bands like Your Demise, and I love artists like Eminem, Jay-Z, Kanye West, 50 cent, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj - you name it ... And people are totally fine with it when I tell them it - But as soon as I mention that I actually like the music of One Direction, they start talking shit like: "That's impossible, you can't like them when you listen to FFDP!!" -.-'

I agree with this. I listen to a lot of rock bands like Godsmack, Saving Abel, Halestorm, Shinedown, Angels Fall, and such, but I also listen to some other genres, mostly just Machine Gun Kelly. My dad will here me listening to something other than rock, and he'll be like 'what are you listening to? I thought you were a rock girl.' I just stare at him and tell him that I like other things than rock, and he will just start hating on the song that I'm listening to.

I'm ranting, but I totally agree with your point.

I agree so much! I usually listen to rock music and bands like My Chemical Romance, Avenged Sevenfold, Black Veil Brides and others. And people usually get so shocked when they learn that I also love Disney stuff and only just recently I found myself becoming a 1D fan. They all be like, "Dude, what are you listening? That's not you!" But who are they to tell me what is me and what isn't, right?

I absolutely hate this perception. I was watching an Avenged Sevenfold music video, and just casually, scrolling through the comments, I saw a girl posting she liked them and One Direction, and immediately, she was attacked and asked harshly in the replies to leave the video and go watch 1D. As a fan of both 1D and A7X it was kind of like a 'what the fuck is wrong with you?' moment. Because really? Why can't you appreciate that we like the same band instead of focusing on something you don't like?

It's like, this 'My band/genre is so much better than yours and your opinion is invalid' stuff is bullshit.

    Completely agree.

Everybody I work with knows that I'm a die-hard rock fan, so imagine the looks on their faces when yesterday they learned that I also love Taylor Swift.

    I felt like an alien.
