Thanks for all the comments and replies, guys. I actually reported it early this morning and in just a few hours, Wattpad took down the story for me. Although, I don't think the user knows about it yet. Hopefully, the girl who stole my work realizes what she did was wrong. I did leave her a comment on her page and messaged a few of her followers who liked my story and told them it wasn't her work. I'm just worried that she's still gonna try to post up my story somewhere else or that all her followers won't realize that I wrote the story, not her. But for now, I'm just really glad that my story was taken down from her account.

I had the exact same thing happen to me - two of my stories were being posted on Wattpad without my permission, by two separate users. And it had happened some two or three years before I managed to find them. (This is actually how I found Wattpad.)

I reported both, of course. One user was inactive and the story was removed very quickly. The other was an active account, and I noticed that the story was not taken down right away (despite the fact that I provided proof that I wrote the story back in 2004!) I sent the user a polite message explaining that I didn't appreciate having my work reposted, that it was plagiarism, and that I wanted her to remove it.

She was nice about it, and the story was down within 24 hours.

I hope you manage to resolve this successfully. Give it a day, and if Wattpad hasn't removed it, confront the user directly. Good luck!

:( Oh my goodness that is completely awful! This actually makes me wonder if anyone has ever stolen anything of mine, and it freaks me out knowing anyone can steal my writing and I wouldn't know about it D:. I hope that it gets worked out because this is so not right, and I honestly think you're under reacting a little bit!

You are not over-reacting! It's a terrible feeling to see that someone else doesn't respect you and your story enough to write their own. It's a disgrace to people like us, who spend hours and months (maybe even years) working on our stories, just to have someone else take the credit.

I'm sorry that this happened to you. I hope the other writer gets banned from Wattpad and talks to you face to face.

Sheepcat has a point, but what she's doing is plagiarizing a copyrighted piece. You CAN and do have grounds to go after her for stolen property if she refuses - or you can just keep letting people know that is your work, not hers.

It may be better to go directly to the user. The report system on wattpad is temperamental at best. If you explain the situation, she should stop.

I can relate to you all too well on that, and you are NOT overreacting. When we write a story - that story is part of us. When someone steals it, they, in a sense, steal apart of us. I've had that happen to me more than once - though surprisingly I had people tell me here on mibba 'just thought you should know' - I'm on a few sites and there's been a few times it was just my story and me with a different user name. I'm just sorry that happened to you. The upside is they stole your story because they thought it was good - the bad thing is - she's a leech and wants credit for someone else's work - a parasite. If wattpad gets more than one report they'll take it down. If you can get your friends to report it, and email the site admin I guarentee you'll get some results. I'm just very sorry you're so upset, you have every right to be.
