I love Macklemore and I love the message he gives to everyone. I really don't like the society we live in today where people have to hide who they really are for fear of persecution. I hate it, when I really think about it. I hate that if one of my best friends was older and wanted to marry the man of his dreams, he wouldn't be able to because Florida doesn't have marriage equality. I'm hoping with all of my heart that we can get a law in place, but I have a feeling it may take a while. We'll have to see. There's a lot of old and backwards people in this state.

Wow. I forgot to respond to these.

I think both of you have your points. The older generation is part of the reason we're being held back. Elder people are homophobic largely for the reason many of them are still racist, it's how they were raised. They were raised in a time where these things weren't well... A thing I guess. Acceptance for people's difference like sexuality didn't exist and even while the world becomes more progressive, elder people are largely holding onto the way they were raised. The world is probably going to become more progressive as the younger generation takes over. The younger generation is largely responsible for the success same-sex marriage has had in the U.S recently. If it weren't for younger people coming out to vote and voice their opinions, many of these fights would have been lost.

But Quiescent also has a point that a lot of young people hold homophobic viewpoints as well because it's how they're being raised. It can be hard to break away from how you were raised, especially if your family is sheltering you. I came from a strict Christian home, I know how it feels to be taught these views and then be sheltered because your family doesn't want you knowing anything else.

Younger people are easier to sway than elder people are though. Their minds are more open to change and learning, whereas elder people tend to be stuck in their ways. Take California as an example. We accomplished what we did not just through the courts but also through open dialogue. We talked to people both young and old to change their hearts and their minds. Younger people are more perspective to change and are more likely to come support something new with a bit of open dialogue.

That's kind of the way it was with me. v.v There were so many negative comments that I wanted to see at least one positive one before I clicked away. I later found out the first article I read was on a conservative propaganda site so... I guess that explains it. x) The comments were much better when I went to real news sites. :3
    @ God of Winter
And now I'm curious... How have you been saying it? :P

I actually had no idea this happened until I watched the video you posted... That is AWESOME. I loved it.

And also, I realized I've been saying his name wrong all this time... haha.

Ah sorry I have to say I love your username because my story on here is called "Quiescence". Okay. that was random :)

Anyways, I agree that reading comments never fails to put me in a bad mood. I have this weird habit of "I have to read a positive comment before I exit the video". Sometimes it can take ten freaking minutes. I adored his performance, probably more than any of the other ones!

I said it was my personal opinion, from what I've seen in my lifetime. And you're basically saying what I said anyways. All of this hatred is originating from the older people who were raised thinking straight people are right and homosexuals are wrong, which media covers, and younger people pick up on it, and they think it's right, so they go about it that way. Either that, or the older people have raised the younger people to think that.

I don't think it's right to say it's the older generation holding us back, because I know a lot of younger people in OUR generation that view gay people as wrong just as much as the 'older generation'. I've even approached them asking where they get all these views from, and a lot of them surprisingly just say it's written in the media, people bashing all the gays, it's the right thing to do. Because apparently everything that is broadcast in movies and the news is the gospel truth these days to kids, and it's sad to see that's the way it's going.

That performance was probably the most amazing thing I've ever seen. And the fact that the entire audience was cheering along with it just made me so happy. I feel like, in my personal opinion, once this older generation dies off, and the younger generation steps forward, same-sex rights and marriages will become just as normal as opposite-sex marriages. The older generation, who is apparently still living in the 20th century, is holding everyone back. Not just in same-sex situations, but in overall everything in the world.

I personally think the only thing that you should consider about a person is their personality. Besides if you're smart enough you'll realise the only thing that matters about a person is if you can tolerate being around them with all their little quirks and habits; nothing else should matter. It doesn't matter if the guy/girl you like has varying taste to you, so long as you enjoy their company that's all that should matter.

I am tired of seeing people mistreated just because they like something that is out of the 'norm', it shouldn't be that way. Nobody is asking you to judge someone for liking two genres of music that are 'at war' with each other, and certainly nobody should give a rat's behind about who you date.

In my opinion, those are people who haven't grown up and have very little maturity to begin with, and most times, they don't have sufficient evidence to back up their claim. So often do they just repeat themselves, 'It's not right', 'They're spreading gay feelings', 'God didn't make us that way'. Nobody should ever be able to define who you are, ever!

"The only people who are spreading anything is the Homophobic, not the gays. We are quite happy to sit back and let you be who you are, so let us be who we want to be." - Stephen Fry.
(It may not be exact but it's the general message of what he said in his documentary, 'Coming Out'. It is such a sad two-part series, I bawled my eyes out.)

This blog is perfect and I know exactly how you feel, saying that you don't just say that you're gay. Not only have I felt ashamed because I like who I do, I feel more ashamed because of how society views people that aren't straight. Not only that but then how they're treated. It's all something I have to think about so often if I ever consider telling someone I'm gay .

I like what Macklemore is trying to say and I understand it. I feel like all hate is just unnecessary.

His performance was terrific. I was really surprised by the whole marriage thing! I literally squealed. I liked it because it wasn't all same-sex couples. If it had been, I would have felt like they were trying to force the idea too harshly. The fact that it was same sex and opposite sex couples really represented equality to me and I loved it.

I don't listen to his music, but I completely respect the message and totally agree, and I think that it was absolutely wonderful. Lol "shoving same-sex marriage down people's throats." Didn't Disney and Barbie shove hetero marriage down the throats of all young girls before they were old enough to know what was going on? #logicfail
