Yeah, I thought it would be a lot of fun but apparently no Sad businesses are just only out for themselves, I guess!

    @ Hiddleston.
I suggested that too and still no! They were just really against the whole thing. I think it wouldn't have been quite as bad if she were nice about it, but the second I proposed it she said "no." Just no. Before any of my coworkers could even add input or anything.

    @ semisweet.
I know! I was seriously so angry. I didn't talk for the rest of the meeting after that. But I did eat all the free meeting donuts I could get my hands on tehe

    @ Carpe Diem !
If only it was that easy lmfao

    @ thewolf.
I was going to but I don't have the balls lmfao

    @ silk tea.
Well it's a she but hey that's always an option XD

    @ xMandiblesx
Yeah, it's the only video rental chain left where I do. It's because they don't care about anyone or anything and will do whatever it takes to get ahead. They're currently getting into a ton of lawsuits because of it.

    @ Damsel Of Darkness
    Thanks!

I can see your managers point and at the same time, I can see yours. Honestly, I kind of think I might side with your manager though, simply because they have to think of it from a business stand point and if you were to think of competition for movies, it's books. You're idea is great, but not applicable to a movie store (I assume that's what it is as we don't have them here in Oz) just as encouraging kids to watch movies would have negative repercussions to a book store. Maybe you feel a little more strongly and appalled by the whole situation because you are studying to be a teacher, so you're a person that wants to shape young minds and encourage expanding their imaginations with something like reading, rather than being concerned with them simply just being entertained.

Honestly, it comes down to making money when you're in business, which sucks when they're trying to do something that gives back to the community, but that's just how it is. After all, it's not like they really care about giving back to the community, they care about making their business look good and encouraging them to use their business and not their competitors. They'd be looking for ideas such as maybe putting on public screening of a family movie as giving back to the community... Because it's great advertisement for their business but is something nice for families.

Of course, this is just my opinion... Just trying to show a different perspective

Wow.....that's pretty shocking. Obviously your manager seems to care about money more than well being of children. I have no idea where you live but in my town, Family Video put Blockbuster, Hollywood Video and two other local movie stores out of business. I highly doubt Family Video will go out of business in most places since they don't have a lot of competition left, if any.

Remind your manager that books came long before movies and people remember words better than they will a shitty line uttered in a movie Vampire

I wouldn't be disgusted, i would be confused. Your manager can want kids not to read and want to get their entertainment from their business all he wants, but he apparently fails to get that ultimately it is the parent's money that is going into the store, not the kids. Besides reading should be the parent's responsibility anyways.

    What in the actual hell?
    Are you serious?!?
Your idea sounded lovely and really good.
Like what about if you read books that were movie based? Read the books and then watch the films? There's plenty of those around.

I'm really sorry your idea was rejected. I would have paid money for my kids to enjoy your idea.

    Seriously people...

Man that sucks! I love reading! But that doesn't mean I don't watch TV too. Geez people can still do both without there being any problem. Grmml
