I do honestly prefer Green Day and U2 to Beyonce and Shakira. It's not that their voices are bad, just I like GD's and U2's messages better. MTV generally pisses me off so I decided it wasn't worth the increase in blood pressure and didn't watch the VMAs. In fact I haven't watched MTV since May 31, the day after the Teenagers video premiered on TRL.

If you really want to ask what is music coming to you need to look past that.
Look at all the new bands that are just copy-cats of bands 20 years ago.
Seriously.

I personally don't think Green Day should've won. U2, yes, but Green Day no.
They've lost their true touch from when they first started.
Also, Beyonce and Shakira must've made better music videos.
After all, it was the Video Music Awards.

that is horrid i mean greenday and u2 are two classic bands
and they lost to a punch of hip shaking ???? it just doesn't make any sense to me

GAH. I love Beyonce and Shakira! Just because they aren't rock it doesn't mean it's bad music.

Well, I don't necessarily think that Beyonce and Shakira are BETTER than Green Day and U2, but both really, really have some pipes. REALLY have some pipes. Shakira and Beyonce both have very...good voices.

Really, it's popularity. And it's not totally about the song itself, it's the video that has the largest part in it.

It's all a matter of taste.

I mean, I was totally rooting for GD + U2, but I'm happy for Beyonce and Shakira. I'm a fan of them, too.
