I don't think they're are 'taboos' for writing specifically (and have a feeling some social justice extremist somewhere will argue this with me) writing should be all about pushing your comfort-zone. If you think something is a good idea and you can write it respectfully, without romantizing or glorifying it, then you should write it. You shouldn't put a taboo on something and limit your writing because it makes someone uncomfortable.

i've actually seen quite a lot of bestiality especially lately? it's a bit weird. i know a few people who actually do like bestiality (as a fantasy) and i'm really not sure how i feel about it, even in fic.

I never understood the appeal of incest fics but they've been a thing for as long as I can remember (remember Waycest?). I can't really fathom any reason to write incest. It just rubs me the wrong way. But I guess if that's your thing... I don't know. Other taboo things, I think, people write purely for shock value.

I've only written one thing that might be considered taboo, and it was about selling human organs on the black market. (Not even on the same plane as cannibalism, but if I were to turn it into a movie or something, I'm sure there would be some uproar from the public.) The reason I wrote it is because the idea randomly came to me and I thought it was weird and I wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone. So in short, I guess it was because of the latter reason you offered. I wrote it because it's taboo for me as well.

I find taboo topics get more reaction from readers, especially when they become outraged about it. So I enjoy writing about topics that aren't really written about, such as child soldiers in war or a parent being the one that destorys their child's life.

I think it can be a good exercise for an author to write about a subject that is taboo for them. It's important to explore unfamiliar things and step out of your comfort zone as a writer, in my opinion. if I were to write a story about something like cannibalism, it would be because of the reason stated above.

For me I just write whatever, whether or not it's considered taboo doesn't really cross my mind lol.

I can only guess that people write about taboo things because they aren't spoken of very often, if ever, in public. Maybe it's an interesting topic to that person or they find it exciting to write about something that is taboo.

Beastiality is something I could never feel comfortable writing about ever. (unless it's like werewolves…but obviously they would human during the intercourse and kissing shit). I'd be fine writing about cannabalism if it's like a horror story(Hannibal-like, etc.) and I'm not sure I'd like to do incest. I've seen two movies which have incest in them and both times I was incredibly grossed out but the movies were amazing. (Stoker and Oldboy.)
