I've heard of that happening. How wonderful for your mother lol.

The more you know. Tongue It just kinda developed into that, oddly enough. But if that birthing mat is invented and becomes implemented in hospitals and whatnot, make sure you get royalties or something for it. tehe

Haha! I can imagine it being a lot of work too.. Funny embarrassing story. The first thing I did when I was born was I popped on my mum. :P

That makes sense. It's easy to push when you are squatting. Perhaps we should invent like a birthing mat or something so when the baby is pushed out it has somewhere soft to land? But thanks didn't think this post would lead me to learn about birth haha!

Surprisingly, my mother wasn't induced and when she'd watch pregnancy related shows she was wondering why they didn't. She said my birth wasn't that bad though, just tiring. XD

I don't even know definitely. I'm sure it IS necessary if, say, the baby gets "stuck" and would lose consciousness and die if they're not taken out immediately beforehand via C section. But in every biology class I've taken as well as an anthropology class---we're the only species to prefer the more painful way of birthing because we like to lay down and be comfortable. Every other animal stands up or squats. Some people in other countries prefer to squat or stand up giving birth because it IS less painful and the baby doesn't pass by the spine and risk hurting your back bone. Just look at human anatomy, it really helps to visualize the process. It's strenuous.

But yeah, that's my unofficial crash course of birth. I probably left out a lot of info but that's the gist of it!

Thanks for the article was a good read!! That's crazy though! I know my mum had to be induced to have me. Never knew why... With C-sections though are they sometimes inevitable?

Yeah, it's actually interesting because in most modern, Western societies the mother will hold the child more and form the bond with them but in this society, the men play more of an active role in terms of holding the child and taking on tasks seen more as the "women's / mother's role." It's fascinating, and there was even a case study done on it that compared the average time a father held their child in Western society to this specific society's fathers. Cute

But yeah, went OT there but it does suck, especially because for the longest time, PMS was seen as a disease by doctors (see: males, because females were not allowed to be doctors / go to school for it, even). It still is. Just watch a commercial for it. PMS is medicalized and treated as a disease meant to get rid of. So is childbirth in hospitals---doctors give the mothers drugs to induce birth / give them C-sections, which doesn't happen when they have midwives doing the birth vs. doctors in hospitals. But midwives were seen as "witches" and "archaic" by doctors.

Sorry for rambling, but yeah, a lot is misunderstood about the whole thing and it's really sad.

I will...however I'm not sure I am ready to see this! I know I could not handle it. I see mums around walking with those baby carrier things attached to their stomachs. I say to them every time it's the dad's job to carry the baby around for the next 9 months. I understand the whole PMS thing except for the experiencing part! it must just suckkk!!

I highly suggest you not read up or watch the video of the men who tried out the birthing process simulation. They couldn't even handle it. Shocked I told my mother and she started laughing because she imagined my dad trying to stick through it. Women get a lot of flack for "PMSing" but shit, it's not a walk in the park experiencing a natural phenomena. . .
