I've had similar views to my writing and it has helped in many ways. I've also got back into reading. Because I find the more I read the more I'm likely to write.
I went to Hillsong Conference recently and one of the Creative people told us as a writer we should read more than we write. Which kind of makes sense. :)
So, I completely feel you on the writing front. So,e of my stories are sitting, waiting because of lack of inspiration.
I have a journal I write in that helps.
Oh, and short stories kill me because I can't write endings...lol
I've been reading a lot more recently, which makes me feel less guilty about not writing, so I guess that's a start. But you're absolutely right - we should read more than we write, and I think for a long while I forgot that. I need to get back on track.
I also have a journal, but I write in it a lot less frequently than I used to. I've been keeping them since I was fourteen. Back then, I'd write every few days. Now I'm lucky if I write in it once every six months! D=
I never know how to end them, either! Or start them. Or, y'know, fill in the middle bit. =P
