Awh I'm a cashier but I can understand where you're coming from. I don't really like talking to cashiers because as one, I know sometimes how forced it can be but then saying nothing is sorta awkward too. And with the money thing - I get a but nervous over that too. Like, I don't like counting out change because I feel like I'm wasting their time but when I'm on the other side serving someone, I really don't care how someone pays as long as they pay.
One thing you could do is tally up how much your shopping will cost as you go on your phone and then have the right change ready, or have every coin available on you so you can give any amount of change :)
