Good lord. I didn't even realize it was that skewed. I just cannot. As someone from a place that has deep rooted Roman Catholicism also influencing the population and some of its laws, that's just unacceptable. I know it's not the same thing, but we have "Romeo and Juliet" laws which are supposed to be in place to protect the citizens but it doesn't clearly outline much of a rule of consent so it can go very wrong.

All in all, consent is taken so lightly and not carefully with these types of laws in place. It's so backwards and not progressive at all imo.

For the most part we're not backwards, it's really only when it comes to pregnancy and the rights of mother vs baby. It's the older religious generation who control the country, and the government is too scared to back legislation that will offend the people who vote for them. As the UN said, the law treats women as vessels. It's not fair on the woman or the baby in these scenarios.

That law in Ireland really bothers me, because Ireland is one of my favourite countries and I don't see it as being backwards at all. But that silly law...

It's scary. It's inhumane. That poor woman, and the child, who has to grow up thinking neither of it's parents wanted it, but with that not being the point at all...

Do you have any links to the news story? Good lord. You explained it well but I want to see the article and soak it all in even more. She had not only her sex as a woman working against her, but pregnancy, status as a foreigner / immigrant, AND financial hardship which also resulted in instability of her well being. Awful. I wish her the best in gaining justice somehow.
