I don't think anybody really knows what "emo" is. Not musicians or MySpace kids or anybody.
I think it's like Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny. Kids like to pretend it's real so they keep a sense of innocence within their minds.
They don't want to grapple with the fact that "emo" doesn't exist because it means the end of innocence.
    That's just my opinion. :]

I find it funny Gerard would say that, cause I'd actually have to call him out to being a teenie bit hypocritical....cause emo stands for emotional....and MCR's lyrics can get emotional

I mean, listen to "I don't Love you" or "Cancer" and tell me you don't get emotional.....O.O I don't 100% agree with the way their myspace had the genre either "Rock/Metal"

I wouldn't call MCR metal. Honestly, to me, it's just ROCK I don't go on to further label rock musci into ska, emo, punk etc, if they're playing rock music, then to me it's rock music.

But Gerard really hates "emo" cause when i saw them back in March he said, and I quote "There's been a lot of shit about us, and about you, and about how we're some sort of emo death cult.....One, we're not emo. Two, we're not a death cult....." then he went on to tell us to be ourselves and not take anybody's shit...

and I'd have to agree with Sam too *Points to below comment* What he said as well...

well what makes a group emo? the clothes and style? the music content*killing and revenge and dying?*, or the ideals? if music content is what makes music emo...sign up Johnny Cash then with his stirring lyrics, add in NIN, tool, nirvana, pearl jam, they have songs about suffering, pain, and torment right?! i don't think anyone really knows what makes them "emo". if you ask me, they are simply rock.

Yeah, at the end of the day "emo" does just mean emotional so I suppose that in mcr's lyrics, people associate them with that sort of style - Just from the depth and the meanings of the words and stuff.

in my opinion my chemical romance is an emo style. But that is purely based on the lyrics. Theyre not like that croud of bands who are all the same, and all write the same music...
personally i dont have a problem with emo music...if its written WELL lol

Exactly. In my opinion, disagree if you want, if they weren't in the music business for the fame, they wouldn't take up every offer to be on every magazine cover, including those they disagree with.

Yeah, people do pay too much attention to celebrities or famous people etc. which in a way I suppose encourages them more to want to be on the front of magazines and stuff.

    Entertainment journalist do that.

Not all. It's partially the reason as to why I refuse to have anything to do with the entertainment business as well as tabloids...that and celebrities don't deserve all that much attention..

He never actually says "emo music" is shit.
    He says "emo" is shit.
I'm not too quick to jump on the defensive when I read stuff like that now.
Reporters take things out of context.
Like when Brendon Urie called emo "bullshit" he was referring to the vagueness of the label and how it's overused. They took it out of context and made him look like an asshole.
    Be careful before you judge.
Journalists like to twist things and cause a scene.
