A Shop teacher (I think it was a wood shop one) once told my class that respect goes both ways, but the best advice i was given was about friendships, at least finding out who your true friends are. And the advice goes something like, "If another kid you're trying to become friends with is refusing to get to know you, then they're not worth your time because they're missing out on a great friendship with a great kid like you. You'll find people who'll become your closest friends when they get to know you." And by god she was right!
Thank you, Ms. Lewis for that piece of advice. I was upset over a girl I thought was my friend purposefully leaving me out of a reading group in my 6th grade English class. Of course looking back on it now, I don't think she was actually leaving me out on purpose. She probably wanted to try something new with other people because I was slightly clingy back in 6th grade, but still, it kinda hurt my feelings that a friend i was attached to didnt even consider putting me in her group.
It happened ages ago and I'm over it but still, the advice was pretty good.
