I sometimes do it, I sometimes don't. . . It's all depending on the story. I personally believe it's each person's right to put it in if they feel it's necessary for them. Blanketing all fan-fiction as a given disclaimer is the wrong angle for me. I do feel, however, that disclaimers are more often than not extremely useless in fan-fiction, but I won't condemn the person who used it as incompetent or get irritated (you have every right to, so don't think I'm sassing you!) given that most disclaimers are related to the characters, which are clearly not original. I could go on further, but I'm a bit lazy ahaha

Like everyone said, it's mostly a habit carried over from a site that requires you to put a disclaimer somewhere or someone might accuse you of stealing the plot of a tv show or w/e. I do it out of habit really because honestly, i feel it's a bit disrespectful not to, but you know, everyone has thier choice of doing it or not.

I don't always include them but I think they can sometimes be necessary. They're required on a band forum I post fan fiction to because we need to make it absolutely clear that although we're writing about real life people, nothing we're writing about them is true.

I know for most people the disclaimer is included because a lot of writing sites do (or did) require it, so it's just a pretty harmless carried over habit. And I think other people also do it so that there's never any mistaking it - so no one can ever accuse them of trying to pass off the characters as their own.

I don't do it myself, but I definitely don't find it irritating either.

Sadly, not everyone has the common sense to understand what fanfiction means. I don't really write a disclaimer for my fanfics on Mibba besides a small thing like Frozen © Disney. But when I wrote on FF.net, I did write a disclaimer because I got more than one message accusing me of "stealing" the animes I was writing fanfics for. Rolling Eyes

As silly as these disclaimers sound, they actually are necessary at certain times because someone may come across your story and decide to accuse you of plagiarism if you didn't write a disclaimer.

Honestly; I do it because I get stupid people going "Oh this is from this show, why are you acting like it's yours"

So I think I'll keep mine, so I dont have to reply to the stupid people tbh. And there are people that stupid, trust me, haha.

I honestly never understood why people did this. The only reason I thought of is if a writing site required it or something. I find it quite annoying as well.
