I think that's common among writers. Like everyone else said, try writing everything out anyways and when you reach a certain point in the story and you're still unsatisfied then you can rewrite the whole story. ^^ You can't give up on writing the story before you even started it. Try writing the story one scene at a time and try rearranging the scenes to see if you can get any motivation. Like write some random scenes down and rearrange them.

I have the same problem just about every time I start a story, and what I've learned to do is just write it anyways. As awful or as wrong as the words might feel, it generally helps to remind myself that one of the hardest parts of writing is actually getting it written. Sometimes it's hard to find the right words, but the more you write, the closer you are to finding them.

And sometimes the things you come up with as a kid can be the best ideas! It's easy to feel discouraged after you've been perfecting the story within your head for so long (I completely understand, I have the same problem), but the only way your story is going to live up to the expectations you have for it is by perseverance!

I'm totally sorry if I did nothing to help, but if you need someone to help motivate you, or anything like that I would be happy to help!

I'm in the same boat as you. I've also got a story that's been in my head for the past five years. It's the loudest one, but I'm too afraid to write it down since it might not come out how I picture it in my head and I don't see myself as a good writer. With the encouragement of a friend I'm slowly starting to outline my story and I'm actually getting excited to write it. If that story you've been wanting to write is the loudest in your head, then write it. Don't worry about how it sounds. Once it's finished you can always go back and edit it. I'm probably not much help. But just don't give up on your story. You don't want to look back later on in your life and regret not writing it. I really apologizes if I wasn't helpful.
