I felt that I could relate strongly to this post that it was borderline scary.
I don't know why we didn't worry for the future when we were younger...it's weird. I guess the safety net of the people responsible for us allowed us to feel at ease, but with the net gone and all responsibility on us life suddenly gets so tough.

I'm afraid I can't think of any other way to help than what I know and do best: escaping.

Escape. Find somewhere surrounded by nature, or somewhere quiet and peaceful. Read a book, watch a favourite TV show/movie, listen to music or just simply sit/lay there and let your mind encounter the beautiful, beautiful state of happy nothingness.
I find that attaining that inexplicably beautiful state of peacefulness within oneself only really works for me in a nature setting where I feel that my mind connects with everything around me; I can't do this without negative thoughts interrupting while in a building.

If possible, pick a big time window where you won't have to be constantly checking on the time before you have to zone back into the real pressuring world to make an appointment/dinner on time etc. Give yourself the freedom you need: of time, of work, of worry.
Focus on something other than your own life because doing this is a fantastic way to disconnect while feeling content.

I was directed to this quote via Twitter and I'm so glad I followed the link because this perfectly explains what I'm trying to get across in one short quote:

"She was too tired to feel anything more,
She wanted a book to do to her what books did:
    Take away the world,
Slide it aside for a little bit,
    And let her please, please
Just be somewhere and somebody else."
    (Lev Grossman, The Magician's Land)

Our minds need to breathe just as much as our bodies - I don't think general society recognises this enough.
