Me and my aunt have experienced this way too much in Walmart for the past few weeks. People seem to forget the manners we were supposed to have learned in elementary school.
That sounds so creepy You'd probably think us Kiwis (in general...) are as polite as Canadians! We're always saying "excuse me" and apologising when we get in someone's way, even if we aren't totally in their way or if it's their fault And then that's followed by a "nah, you're right" and then everyone's happy, no feelings hurt and no creepy situations
This is so true. When I'm at my local store and I walk in front of people, who may not be looking where I'm walking in front of, I say, "Excuse me, sorry about that." Most people look at me like I have a third head, because I'm a twenty-year-old with manners. I've interacted with older people, as you mentioned here, who do not have that.
In seriousness, I can relate to this so much though. Personal space is important so if somebody wishes to invade it or requires action from me then they need to let me know. Even a simple forewarned apology works!
But oh, my god, I understand the annoyance. My brother just says 'you could say excuse me, you know!'
