I know this is late but I hope you're feeling better and safe. I know how terrifying this is, having experienced something similar recently. Unfortunately pepper spray and even carrying knives and scalpels is illegal here. :/ On ya for putting the pepper spray on your keychain.

First off, that's fucking terrifying. Being under 5' myself I understand where you're coming from completely. Nothing is more terrifying than to feel small, trapped, and helpless. I'm glad you were able to get away safely.

Also, I recommend getting one of those apps that let your friends and family track where you are, just in case something bad happens. Or tell one of your friends or family members that you're going somewhere, and you'll call or text them in however many minutes it takes you to get there when you get to wherever you're going. If you don't, then they should call to see if everything's alright. Or do five or ten minute check-ins if it's something that'll make you more comfortable. That way if you run into them again, or are in a similar situation, you can excuse yourself and can talk to someone you care about to help calm your nerves. Or maybe if you find yourself in that situation say that you have to call a parent or someone to wish them happy birthday or something.

And check with your local police station for self-defense classes. I know the one by my house does, or at least the community centers hosts them.

Don't be afraid to ask strangers for help in times of need. Or instead of directly asking a stranger for help, next time perhaps making sure you're very close by to strangers and loudly expressing your discomfort at the situation will alert their attention. Phrases like: "I don't know who you are", "please leave me alone", "I don't want to have to call the police". If there are witnesses, it would be beyond idiotic for him to do anything else other than walk away.
