If you're into psychological thrillers, I suggest reading "Dead Sleep" by Greg Iles. It's one of my favorite. Iles also has a series with his character Penn Cage that's really good, but those books are long. (The best one I've read yet is "Turning Angel".) Another series I really love is the Matt Wells series by a British guy, Paul Johnston. All of these I've mentioned are a bit dark though.
I just finished reading "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" by Ransom Riggs. I read the entire book in two days (although I'm a fast reader). It's the first in a trilogy. It's not my usual read, but I found it quite enjoyable. I haven't seen the movie, so I can't compare them.
Oh, and another good place to get books is Half.com. There's generally a shipping charge, but you can still get books really cheap even including the shipping costs.
I enjoyed The 5th Wave. I need to go finish the series. I haven't read Nerve but the movie was pretty dope.
Some books I'd recommend: Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter Croak by Gina Damico Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo Aimee by Mary Beth Miller Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer
If you don't mind historical fiction mixed with mystery and crime, I suggest the Sano Ichiro novels by Laura Joh Rowland. The first book is called Shinju. I read the first fifteen or fourteen books in the series and they're amazing.
A Song of Ice and Fire; its an ongoring series from which the show Game of Thrones is adapted. Its absolutely the best high fantasy I have read. Everyone needs to do the same.
EDIT: Also, Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. An expert piece of literature.
@ TheWh0rr0r You should check out Eleanor & Park and Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. They're both real life situations. Attachments is a really cool book.
And same! I'll buy ALL the books, but I barely ever spend money on going to the movies.
@ PoeticMess. I will mostly read anything. I like Fantasy, but also like real situations. My favorite book is Thirteen Reasons Why, I like books with those sort of themes, because I really liked It's Kind of a Funny Story. As long as it has an interesting story that I can follow and not be able to put the book down. Like the books I mentioned that I read in here too I liked a lot.
And yeah I will not hesitate to spend money on a book, but when it comes to buying a movie I'd have to talk myself into, but that also could be because I work at a movie theater and can see new movies for free. xD
My recent favorites are : The Secret History by Donna Tartt The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Steifvater You by Caroline Kepnes Deathless by Catherynne M Valente
@ TheWh0rr0r I'm so glad you thought of me & yeah! I usually don't check things out from libraries because I want to keep them lol, so I spend so much money on books!
What's your favorite genre?? (obviously mine is fantasy)
@ PoeticMess. I was hoping you'd comment. lol I actually started Fangirl, but I'm a really slow reader so I had to take it back to the library that's why I have to buy my books now. I'll try some of these when I get through my growing list. lol :)
This blog is so exciting for me lol because there are so many books that I love! I'm not sure if you're into fantasy, but a lot of my recs are going to be in that genre, but I'll try to switch it up! And you've probably read some too.
All the Shadowhunters' series if you haven't already Shatter Me series by Tahareh Mafi Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas A Court of Thornes and Roses and a Court of Mist and Fury by Maas (the second one is REALLY good) Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo Fangirl and Carry On by Rainbow Rowell Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
Those are most of my favorites so I'll just stop there!
