We're reading the book in my english class.
    There's nothing wrong with it.
It's a brilliant book, there's nothing sexual in it.
And if there is in the later books, then who gives a damn?
I'm sorry but seriously half of the storys on here are porn. (Nothing offencive meant, I love them XD)
There is nothing wrong with the movie, I was more concerened about my 10-year-old cousin watching the bear fight.
Violence is the only thing that worries me about the film, and it doesn't even worry me that much.
My english teacher is taking us to see the film, so it's pretty obvious that the film is suitable.
One of my best friends Hannah is christian, and Northern Lights is one of her favourite books. And she reads alot.
    So, just calm it. Please?

If I stated my opinion, I would just be ditto-ing everyone else. I'm not religious- but I'm not "Godless" either. I'm open-minded- if religion works for you, go for it. Just don't say that the others that are not are spiritually devoid.
Books are books. They're not meant to be a huge influence- they are perhaps supposed to make you think a little, exercise your mind, but mainly just ENTERTAIN. Movies are too. And yes- no one's forcing anyone to see it. If they want to remain strict in their beliefs and not have other ideas thrown at them, they won't see it!

And by the way- Athiests and agnostics didn't protest at all the religious movies in cinemas. So frankly, protesting against movies that are non-religious is really just being discorteous.

    Feeling Failure?
It is my PERSONAL OPINION that religion restricts us. That author certainly would've restricted himself from writing that novel. Religion, to me, is complete organized madness.
And if you believe in god than you just contradicted yourself. "Relgion" does not make the world open to you, your "god" does.
I stand by my word, so why don't you give an explanation for yours.

What do other forms of literature have to do with this?
-Considering she's ranting about how this a terrible book, why not mention the other ones.

A lot of books read in school deal with racism and hatred but we still read them.
But oh no, mention sex and it's taboo. Get a grip.

And you aren't be a jerk? Wow I hate hypocrites.

Maybe it's the parents job to look at what kids are watching. Ratings are there so KIDS WON'T WATCH IT. That's what they are designed for and if parents are stupid enough to let their kids go watch it, go for it. This film was rated PG 13. Meaning Parental Guidance is recommended for anyone under the age of 13. Get it? Got it? Good.
Freedom of speech also means we CAN be jackasses. We're allowed to say how we feel about it. Maybe I would have taken her journal seriously, if she knew how to spell but by the time I got through it, I was annoyed.

I watched horror flicks and "mature" films starting at a young age - I didn't THINK about sex, doing drugs, or chopping someone's head off.

It's the parent's job as fucking parents to sit down and talk to their kids about reality and fiction, not Hollywood

I'm fucking tired of Hollywood being blamed for stupid shit like this.

This whole thing is going around my school and everyone's freaking out.
It's as simple as this really If you don't want to go see it, then don't go see it.
I got sent out of class for saying that.
Maturity is also a really big issue involved in this. Sometimes people aren't mature enough to under things. Then there's the whole rating thing...I think it's rated PG? Or something like that...parental guidance. Which means that parents should go as well.
Plus...it's fictional...so the author is not trying to force anything on anyone about religion or whatever.

I agree with you and I'd also like to contradict Drink_The_Cyanide. Just because something is fictional it doesn't mean kids should watch it BECAUSE it makes little kids think. Because when kids see sexual stuff they start THINKING about that sorta stuff.

And religion does not create a strict, cold world it opens up a world. Just because God doesn't want us to be a bunch of stoners, or acoholics or whores it doesn't mean you have to be a do-gooder who saves cats from trees.

And as far as Dirty. LittleRockstar goes, TV ratings MEAN NOTHING!! People rate stuff PG-13 and under so kids will watch it, they don't care if their polluting minds! All they care about is the fat roll of money their gonna get for putting out some perverted crap into the minds of kids. Disney Channel says cuss words, OK? Dragon Ball Z used to cuss!

And what does 'other books worse than this one' have to do with it? We're talking about THIS ONE not OTHER ONES.

Oh, and Dirty. LittleRockstar: Fredom of speech means KallieKoma can post this and it doesn't mean ya'll have to come be jackasses.

Thanks for posting this, I'm glad to know it's something I shouldn't let my siblings see. Ignore people who wanna be jerks.

    1) Like Dirty.Little.Rocktstar said, spell check. There's a button right down in the left hand corner.
    2) I don't believe in organized religion, so frankly, I couldn't care less.
    3) They're not real, they're made up, and if people are stupid enough to believe them, then that's their own problem.
And 4) like Drink_the_Cyanide said, don't hate something you don't understand. It's called being a hypocrite, and it's ridiculous.

    I agree with Dirty.LittleRockstar

and that novel was pretty good, I remember reading it a few years back.

and as far as taking "god out of the minds of youth today" I choose to think of that as opening their minds a bit more to the wide and wonderful world instead of a thick, cold, restricted world that religion suggests.

    1. Hmm spell check please.
    2. Freedom of speech/expression
    3. There's rating on films for a reason
    4. There's movies/books that are a lot worse than this film.

Hey, have you even read the books?
Yeah, they are pretty sexual at times.... but I read the series when in SIXTH grade.
    It really wasn't that bad.

Also, the books are fictional... NOT real.
And of course the movies will be 'watered down' from the books... even bloody Harry Potter gets watered down from the books!

Maybe, you aren't mature enough to understand the books and only pass along the information you found.

But don't hate on something you don't understand.

If you don't want to see it then don't go watch it...it's really that simple.
I don't see what the big deal is...if people have heard about it then they shouldn't let their kids go see it.
If they have heard about it but still let their kids go see it then they have no reason to complain, they knew about the content in it. =]
