I'm just going to put it out there, before I even start ranting, that I write fanfiction and I love it more than life. I started out writing original fiction but it was just one lame, science-fictiony story that got a grand total of six comments, including my own. I got into the Jonas Brothers (go on, judge me) and started spitting out fanfics like you wouldn't believe, and most of them got to be pretty popular, in my opinion. So, I stuck with it.

Now, reading original fiction is painful, the OF on this website, anyway (and I mean no offence). I can only stand to read a handful of one-shots. It's almost like people are trying too hard to come up with these stories and they either turn out decently forced or just plain sh*t.

Fanfiction is so much easier to write AND read because anyone reading (or writing) the story is already familiar with the characters (minus OC's) and, therefore, you don't NEED any introductions. I'm not saying you should try to make a living off of it, because, obviously, that would never do. What I'm doing is using fanfiction as the foundation of my knowledge, and eventually, when I'm ready, move on to original fiction.

So, I don't think it's fair to bash fanfiction, when it's unfair to the author who's either just having fun, or actually trying to improve their writing skills. It wouldn't be fair to deprive them of that kind of experience just because of a bad reputation due to annoying, untalented fangirls. (SORRY FOR RANTING)

i must agree with you...even though i'm a diehard fan of slash and fanfic and always will be, some are REAL creepy and others are just...guk. like, all the gabilliam slashes always have billvy getting raped or abused or he's a hooker or a stripper. or a wimpy gay dude.

and i REALLY lost hope when i read one where jesus was paired up with some dude in a band...

they need to give the real writers a chance.

I have yet to find a slash that I like.
    They are all the same.
Boy from band has sex with other boy from band.
Waycest is the creepiest kind of slash >.>
And after seeing a Johnny Christ incest story on this site im even more creeped out.

But, I do not discriminate against fan-fics.
    I write them myself.
And it takes a truly good writer to be able to write fan-fics and still make then original.

If I wanted to read an original story, I'd read a book.

oh god here we go again with this argument -_- Trust me, this kind of argument won't get you anywhere, take it from someone with experience.....AKA me.

best to just drop the subject and ignore all the slash if you don't like it

There are good ones in BOTH genres.
As Sardonic Grin said, please don't generalize.

I have to say as someone who writes both original and fanfiction, I think it is unfair to generalize and say that all fanfictions are stupid and unoriginal, and that all original fanfictions are godly. To be honest, I have read ALOT of original fanfiction that is absolute shit as much as I have read fanfictions that are shit.

If you are looking for the good writers are this site:
    Spaztastic- original
    Snow Job- Original
    Zodiac- fanfiction
    Adora Angel- fanfiction
    Bastard Son- fanfiction
    Fish Camp- both
    Druscilla- FBR fanfiction
    Beelzblub- fanfiction
    lyrical_mess- fanfiction
    Lonna- original
    Sardonic Grin- both
    Kiss Me Goodbye- both
    Syck- original
    Vonny- original

There are more, but these are just a few. These are the good authors of Mibba in both genres. There are tons more: Tas, Josipa, Princess, Catastrophic Hymns, Tyler Durden. You just have to know WHERE to look. Go to the Pimping and Reccing thread in the writing forum. Go to the Secret Fanfiction and Fiction Cults. Ask around! There are plenty of authors who will give you the names and titles of good stories in both genres. Stories that are original and interesting and don't involved sex. Don't make silly generalizations just because there are majority of writers who can't string two words together.

Personally, I think it takes true talent to write something that doesn't include a band with a gay member having sex, though it is fun to read.
So far, there is only one story I know of that isn't all cliche. It's an MCR fan-fic, but it seems so normal and natural that it would still be good if it was just a band the girl who write it made up.
That story is called Fueling A Dead Fire, look it up.
And I'm not just saying this because I don't write fan-fics. I'm saying this because it's basically true.
You've got to be talented to sit there and think of characters and a plot and make it come alive.
Doesn't take much talent to re-write what everyone else is writing.

    Good point.
But I'm still gonna keep writing boysex and clichés in my stories! I generally take the piss out of the clichés I use, but whilst I do like reading other stuff, boysex and clichés is what I write.

    Nice rant :D

I think you raise a good point.

Fanfics are often dire pieces of trite nonsense but some are very good but often these are pushed aside.

Also, unless it's for a specific fandom (mainly Science-fiction shows) most of these will never actually, physically or in any way possible reach to be a real, papery book.

    Original fiction is good...sometimes.

It always depends on the author and the most popular pieces are rarely good.

    I refuse to write fan-fics.
Sure, I have written one or two in the past, but that's it.
And I never even finished those stories.
All of my stories are from my imagination, except one.
And it's based off of Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge.

Yea that's kind of true, as warning is saying... Original Fics just aren't as good a read. Yes some may be very good or interesting but it's not really what people feel liek reading. Fan fics are just better sometimes, maybe not the actual writing creativity but the story line is usually what people want to read so more people post it.
