he's confused about the way he feels about you... he probably didn't want to rush things up and might be afraid of commitment... I am a guy so I know these kinda stuff lol.
and about being his fifth top friend... he's probably trying to be cool about it, maybe he is trying to get over you in some way by making you think that he doesn't think about you anymore.
In my opinion, he must still really like you but he's got issues...
