YES DAMN IT. WOW I agree with tearsofblood, but I kinda agree with i.love.to.syn on her points also. I'm not taking sides though. And the shit about Britney/Justin being rock or the points this journal stated is EXACTLY why I do NOT listen to American Rock any more...well....rarely. xD

i am VERY aware that rock did not start out as head banging, or thrashing. i am also very aware that music goes through stages. and i am mourning the loss of a very important phase in rock music. but the main point of this journal was to say that just some crap with a guitar and some main stream vocal quality shouldn't be called rock. i know people have different opinions, but that's what i believe. thank you for your opinion, though.

You do realize that rock did NOT originate as "thrashing" or headbanging", right? It came from blues, got altered by Elvis Presley for white people, then Bob Dylan and his poetic lyrics led to some innovation, and Beach Boys off in Cali added more complicated harmonies in a different branch...then you got underground blues clubs in Britain in the 60's...then Rolling Stones etc...british invasion with the Beatles...I don't think the beatles were very "headbanging" or "thrashing". You're defining rock as YOUR version of rock. As for JT and Britney Spears, whoever called THEM rock IS kinda bonkers, but I've never heard anyone call them rock at all. Basically, rock has gone through ten billion phases. You're mourning the loss of your favorite phase. Nothing can stay one way permanently, and most likely your branch of rock will survive. Rock has often had corporate sponsors. Anyone who says The Beatles were counter-culture and not "pop" in america is kind of living under a rock. Besides, complaining about the evolution of music does nothing. Grab a guitar, learn to play, start a band, play what you call good music. "Stop b**ching and start a revolution".
