Well...this is a bit of a toughie.
If the mother went out of her way to invite you... like your friend didn't say 'invite *insert name here* to the shower mom' while you were in the room... that means she doesn't think you're imposing.
Always go with you gut feeling...but if they assure you...you should go if you feel you'd have a good time there.
You may not be able to pull your crush aside because of all the family there.
If the crush wants to talk, you can talk...just in my opinion dont make it too deep because theres always family around and everyones trying to be celebratory of his brother. Just let fate happen if you go. Maybe your friend can get the scoop on why he's pissed at you at a later date before or after the event.
Oh, by the way, try your best not to get the crush pissy at the party...or you may not be invited again for causing a ruckus. Just saying a warning.
