When Is a Good Time to Start a New Story?

I think (or hope) every writer knows what it feels like to have inspiration strike. You get super excited about starting a new story and it's one of the only things you can think about. The story is just floating around in your brain and you get idea after idea for it, all of it happening so quickly that you can barely keep up with it. It's a great time to start a story since you're so passionate about it, and nothing feels better than finally getting it started.

But, what if it's not a great time to start the story? What if it's final weeks and you have a ton of papers due? What if you're getting married in a month and are in the middle of planning your wedding? What if you just had a baby and barely have enough time to sleep let alone write?

Do you try to strike while the iron's hot and get your story going even though you know you don't have time for it? Or do you wait until you have more time on your hands?
