On the first day of seventh grade, Pierre Anthon announces that life has no meaning and walks out of school. Everything, he has concluded, is a useless step toward death. Pierre's shaken classmates scramble to prove him wrong. Their attempts to show Pierre that life is meaningful grow increasingly bizarre and violent, ultimately culminating in to tragedy.
