It is the year 1953 and Jane and Tom have recently moved to the mining village of Carlingrove, the birth place of their mother. Initially, Jane is unhappy about the move but soon begins to acclimatise to her new home.
When Jane and her brother discover a strange, water loving cat in a nearby stream, they begin to learn of the mysterious past of their new village.
