Miles away in the middle of the Pacific Ocean there is an island that takes the shape of a big fish sunning itself in the sea. Around the island blue dolphins swim, otters and sea elephants play and sea birds fly. Once Indians lived on the island but when they left, to sail to the east one young girl was left behind. This story is the story of Karana, the Indian girl who was left behind and lived alone for years on the island. While she waited for a ship to take her away she survived by building shelter, making weapons, finding food, and fighting an usual enemy, the wild dogs.
