The book follows three characters: Colonel Behrani, who was once a very wealthy man in Iran but now is struggling to perserve his family's dignity; Kathy Nicolo, a young hard-willed person who only has her house to her name; and, Sheriff Lester Burdon who, although he is married, starts to fall in love with Kathy. The three embark on an intertwined adventure to find compassion for each other and someone to lean on for help.
