An over-achieving girl next door is paired off with a popular basketball player for an English assignment. Of course, she assumes he will make her do all of the work and take credit for at least half. But she is pleasantly surprised when he is turned off and annoyed with her assumption. Because he proved her wrong with his intelligence and work ethic, they slowly work towards a friendship and possibly, even more.
