Terra Cooper was born with a port wine stain birthmark on her face. She's tried many treatments and procedures to lighten the birthmark with less than ideal results. However, her mother insists that someday, one of the treatments will work eventually. In trying to convince her parents to allow her to move because of college, she befriends Jacob, a Chinese boy with an adopted mother.
