Will Henry, a twelve-year-old orphan, is the assistant to Dr. Pellinore Warthrop, a monstrumologist, or monster hunter. The doctor discovers a baby Anthropophagus in a cadaver, a creature that feeds on human flesh. After a Reverend and his family are slaughtered by these creatures, they visit gruesome crime scenes (an asylum and a graveyard) in an effort to stop the Anthropophagi from overtaking their world.
