Drita: My Homegirl by Jenny Lombard

Drugs and her family are war refugees, new to New York while Maxie has lived there her whole life, and is rather dealing with the change of her dad's new girlfriend. They don't really get along at first, due to Maxie's stubbornness, but a strange series of events pages then close and closer to the point of friendship in this heartwarming tale of adaptation and acceptance.
