Not Otherwise Specified is told from the point of view of a seventeen year old girl named Etta. Etta lives in Nebraska and doesn't feel as though she fits in anywhere: being bisexual, she's ostracized by her lesbian friends, and not feeling as though she's sick enough for her eating disorder group therapy. All she wants to do is get away. But it isn't until she befriends an anorexic girl named Bianca as they both audition for slots in a prestigious arts academy in New York does she start to find her place.
