Doesn't nihilism also enforce that there's no such things as morals? That's something I personally don't get--I mean, I've never met a person who can honestly say they can't tell a generally 'good' desicion from a 'bad' one, regardless of what they choose to act on. That's not to say that there isn't anybody like that, I just find it hard to grasp. Maybe I'm just not understanding that principle of the philosophy.
Morals don't exist except in our heads. No heads, no morals.

I hold a nihlistic view point but I use it for pedantic purposes.

    I don't think I'm depressing...

I just think that all human endevour is ultimately pointless since we'll all be dead in a few cosmological decades.

I just think you shouldn't get too hung up on all the tiny, crappy nuggets of fatuotousity that we do get so hung up on.

Am I the only one who doesn't really mind if existance itself is pointless?

    :shifty

I quite like having a nihlist mindset.
I like how you think. Cute

    ---

I somewhat agree with the nihlist mindset. I mean, life really could have no purpose.
It all comes down to what we make of it.
I think that everything happens for a reason, and that a purpose might not exist.
Maybe some of us are just... here. And others are the ones making a difference and improving life.
Maybe your purpose(if there is one) is something small, but maybe it's larger.
    Who am I to know?

Not all nihlists are "what's the point? life is so worthless. we're all just dust in the wind...." I have a few nihlist friends and they're just really mellow and go with the flow because they know that they don't need to get worked up about every little thing because nothing lasts.

And I can't help but mention the Big Lebowski.... XD
    "Are these the Nazis, Walter?"
"No, Donny, these men are nihilists, there's nothing to be afraid of."

But surely if everything happens for a reason, that would be...a purpose?

    I guess. Think

But maybe there is no purpose, and the reasons are just why our lives are the way they are.

can we thus conclude that morality is an abstract concept?

I'm not sure if all of us can, but we definitely should.

Nihilism is a bit depressing. If I mean nothing to a God because there's nothing after life, it would inspire me to mean something to the people I'm with everyday- so it's good in that aspect. But just to think that this life is it and you're here for nothing... bummer, y'know?

I guess some people can find solace in that. One man's garbage is another man's treasure sort of aspect.

I find Nihilistic attitudes sort of nonchalant.

In my opinion people who believe the world is meaningless should commit suicide. If they don't then they don't truly believe that. Besides, life is to... Orderly to be meaningless.

^Why would there have to be some hidden meaning behind it all in order to just live life and enjoy it? And they should commit suicide in order to be trully nihilist? Lol

Are you actually ordering me to complete suicide?

    That's a bit harsh, don't you think?

The world's just...aesthetics. Aesthetics can be nice and orderly but semantics are an entirely different kettle of fish.

That's a bit...harsh, don't you think? People don't have to think life has a meaning to be happy, or content. And who's to say life is orderly? I could throw a party, and just because it's a good party, that doesn't mean I planned every step of it.

My apologizes, but you need to screw off. I'm sorry. That was just incredibly rude. Your telling me to committ suicide? What the hell?

Yeah, life is meaningless. There is no established point. So what to do? I live... I can deal with there being no point. I'm here. I may as well live. I'd rather have this than a blank vaccum of nothingness.

If by life is meaningless you mean that we don't believe in any kind of afterlife and when you die, that's it, then one could argue that those who believe as such should not commit suicide because they believe they only have one life to live.

Also, what does order have to do with meaning?

A perfectly valid reason for nihilism in a song.

Although, has anyone heard of the subtype of nihilism called cosmicism which merely entails the meaninglessness of humanity?

^I haven't heard about that, but it makes me kind of confused. If humanity is so pointless, why would everything else have meaning? And what sort of meaning does it have?

^ That humanity is pointless in comparison to the universe at large. Like all our catastrophes, suffering and misery...is pointless and not all that big a deal.
