I couldn't think of a better name for this. XD Anyway, what really annoys me is that when you put up a prologue, it counts as the first chapter, so then when you put up the actual first chapter, is counts it as chapter two, and etc.

So, I was thinking that maybe there could be a way to change this so that we can still have the prologues and epilogues and all, and it won't count as a chapter? So that way, all the chapters will be with the right numbers.

    Just thinking here. ;)

(Changed the name of the topic because I thought it sounded better.)

    ^That would be amazing.
I know I write a preface/prologue for almost every one of my chaptered stories.

    ^ So do I. And sometimes I get confused because the chapter title will say one chapter number, and then Mibba will say something different, and I'm all O.O;

But it can't be default because some people wouldn't prologues.

Maybe a way you could select to have a chapter "0"?

Not default. Maybe when you add a chapter, there could be a drop down box and you could choose whether it was the prologue, chapter 1, chapter 2, something like that?

I do like your chapter 0, although we'd have to think of one for the epilogue as well. ;)

Well, epilogue doesn't throw off the count...

True, didn't think about that part.

Okay, so I either say we have the drop-down box like I suggested, or a chapter "0" you suggested.

I like this idea because I write prolouges as well. I hate how my stories get all the chapters off because of it.

I write prologues a lot, but I don't really care so much about the numbers being off, but if this came to life I wouldn't object. I'm okay either way.

I just want it because sometimes I confuse myself x] That, and I think it would be cool for the site. Yes, that's how smart I am. :D

    I would love a preface/prologue/epilogue "chapter" option.

I would actually use this. I think it's a great idea. I don't always write stories where there is a prologue, but I have one upcoming story I'd probably like to use this in.

It certainly would be nice to have the option to do so.

    Same here. x]

My chapters have their own titles; I don't bother "renumbering" them. I find it boring when people just title their chapters "1." or something. xD

Well, I like to put a number, and then the chapter title (most of the time).

So, it'll be like 1 : Chapter Title Here.

I quite often use numbers because I prefer it and because I don't like my readers to be able to guess what's coming by the chapter title. This would, therefore, be an awesome addition in my opinion.

Not only would it make it more professional-looking but the when the chapter numbers get screwed up and you end up with things like '4. 3.' it just looks weird.

I think that would be cool, some people just use the description for that, but I would think that a preface option would be nice. Nyam

I like to put the number of digit holders, zeros, for as far as I think the chapter count will go and then the actual number 'cause I can't think of short-witty names all of the time and it makes them a little mysterious in my opinion.

    EX: 001....010....354

You can do that already. Look at the summary of this story.

This is an old suggestion, but still relevant. I'm going to write featured suggestion over this.

It looks like the main suggestions thus far are
    • Option to mark chapter as preface/prologue/epilouge
    • Have a chapter "0" to prevent the numbering from being off
Does anyone have anything to add?

Personally, I wish we there was a way in the layout to toggle between chapters because displayed as a decimal/numbered list, and a bulleted list. If the chapters didn't automatically have numbers, it would avoid the whole problem and allow you to number your chapters as you please (including not at all).

I like that idea, of being able to decide whether to use numbers/decimals/bullets/hyphens even, or just none at all :)

I don't know if this is a good idea, but maybe there could be a place, either in the layout or when creating the individual chapters themselves, to set it to be something instead of a number.

So you could still use all the things listed above, or you could copy+paste other things in like stars, hearts, etc. (By that, I'm thinking of the types of characters people put into their signatures, or what people used to use in Myspace names lol).

If that makes sense Mr. Green
