Is anyone else excited for the book the Hunger Games (by Suzanne Collins) to become a movie? I am! I can't wait to see how the book will translate into film. I'm just hopeful that the casting will be good.

Who do you think should play each of the characters? Who do you picture the characters as when you read the book? For me they look like this:

    Katniss: Leah Pipes
    Peeta: Cameron Uranick
    Gale: Jake Richardson

    I'm definitely excited for it.
I don't really have any ideas of my own about the actors who should play them, but I do have a few comments on your picks:

Your Katniss looks too sweet. I pictured her looking tougher.
I pictured Peeta having messier hair. Shorter. And his face was kind of childlike.
And Jake Richardson looks like a creeper. I don't think I've seen him act in a movie or anything before, but he might be able to pull it off. I just want the actor who plays Gale to be perfect, 'cause he's my favorite. :)

    Edit:
Cameron Bright would make a good Gale.

Reviving this because I just saw it!

I though the acting was absolutely spot on. Especially for smaller roles like Gale and Rue. They fit my interpretations almost perfectly.
I also just really enjoyed the overall feel of the movie. The editing and camera effects were fantastic. Everything was placed perfectly, from soundtrack to angles to the complete silence that took place in certain parts. There is really nothing that comes to mind that I can say I didn't enjoy (at least not right now).

    Anyone else see it?

I personally thought it was a super duper good movie. I had high expectations for it, and it did not disappoint me like most other books-turned-movies did (Twilight... yeah, 'nuff said). I think the cast was perfect, and the actors really did justice to the story and the characters, playing their roles to a T.
The part involving Rue was so great- probably one of my favourite scenes. It really made me shed a good tear or two T_T
I think the movie was just an all round job well done. The cast was ace, the acting was awesome, the interpretation of the games and basically that whole WORLD of the hunger games was done perfectly, and overall I really want to see it again. I would pay to see it again!
Oh, and KatnissXPeeta all the way!

I've seen it. Have yet to read the books, but because of Tumblr I finally decided to go see the movie. I have to say I loved it and perhaps I'm just soft but I cried my way through it. I'm definitely going to read the books to see what has been altered and to see how the author really intended the story to be. Looking forward to the next two movies and really, excited to read a new trilogy.

I didn't see the film and instead got it on DVD and bought the books.
I really liked the film, the setting of the Capitol and District 12 were realistic in this dytopian setting and I liked how over the top everyone (Except Cinna) looked in the Capitol.
Jennifer pulled the role of Katniss off very well and Rue's death scene was really moving to watch.
The only problems I had with the film was the constantly moving camera and some of the editing was a bit off (for instance when Katniss offered herself as a tribute). The camera during the beginning and the actual games bothered me a little because it was all rather quick and difficult to keep up.
    But everything else was great.

i'm may get hate for saying this but i didn't like the film. i found it confusing and felt like you had to read the books to follow the story. i thought that Katniss was a bit over-rated and too moody, and to me, i didn't find her bad-ass at all. i main problem with the movie is how OK people are with Hunger Games, watching every year seeing kids kill other. and ONLY til Katniss joins the game they think ¨oh this is wrong!¨ bull-crap! they could have fought against the Capitol at anytime, hell Katniss could have fought against the Capitol in the first film, actually doing something about something she claims is wrong! And i felt like the films didn't take the opportunity to explore the psychological effects on the characters and forced more on a poorly written and forced love triangle.
watch Battle Royale instead! better story, better plot, better characters and better bad-assness!

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think you need to rewatch the films and pay better attention. By the time the books/movies take place, it has been 74 years since the Hunger Games have started, and they started because of a rebellion. District 13 was upset about how the Capitol was handling things and they did start a rebellion. The capitol's response was essentially to demolish that entire district. After that, the rest of the districts got in line. Then the capitol routinely underfed and gave too little to most of the districts while also having strict punishments. These are all things literally shown and talked about in the movie, although I will admit not as well as they could have been. People in the books and movies aren't okay with the games, but they are too scared to fight back. What would the people of District 12 have fought back with? Very few people in there have weapons and even fewer are trained with them. They're a coal mining district, so were they supposed to go up to the guys with guns and whips with axes while they're emaciated and hope for the best?

Also, I find it odd that you like the film Battle Royale since the movie essentially has people super excited about a class of kids chosen at random because of a high crime rate to butcher each other. They don't exactly try to stop it either. Actually, the teacher gets really excited when his class is chosen to be forced to kill each other. Also, I'd only ever recommend that movie if you want to laugh, 'cause it's ridiculous. One of the characters literally recites the quadratic formula when he panics. Even people that loved the book think that movie is stupid and ridiculous, because it is. Hell, one of the kids is dropped off in that area with a paper fan. Adults in the movie act like these kids deserve to be brutally killed, and at no point does the plot or characters actually care if any of the characters survive. Hunger Games' is supposed to have a winner, because there's supposed to be a little bit of hope for the districts, but not too much. Battle Royale was adults going, "Fuck it. We don't care if any of them live."

i think you're wrong about Battle Royale! first the whole plot is nothing to do with high crime rate. it's to do with adults fear and paranoia of teens and their rebellious nature. plus the kids chosen are, to me, not random. they are what society believe to be bad and no good. the teacher you're talking about whos excited about the game, is NOT their teacher now. he's their past teacher and the teacher they had before the game was against them killing each other and is killed. this shows fear of if you fight back, you get killed. in hunger games, why are they so afraid? what would the Lady Gaga dressing capital do if people fight back? and why doesn't people fight try to stop Battle Royale? well my theory is that since the game is not televise and its runned by the government, maybe said government could twist the truth, saying the murdered kids are just missing. oh and people do fight back, in the second film. and you bring up the paper fan scene. well you didn't mention that the guy who kills whose kids picking on him for his weapon, is totally insane and is in it for the kill. AND most of the characters DO care who survives! a lot of the characters fight the system, not wanting to kill their class mates! a group of boys hack the computer system so they can all live and escape the island together! hell, the 2 main characters DON'T kill anyone until the end and the lead kills the evil ex-teacher! there is suppose to be a winner in Battle Royale, the winner gets to live and have a future. and i haven't read the book, but i ever claim to either. i was saying why i like the film.

look i'm not one of those haters who's hating on all things popular, coz thats dumb. i just didn't like the movie, but i can understand why others would. it's just not what i like and i think Battle Royale did the whole survival game theme a little better with showing its effects on its characters. that is just MY opinion!
