Impulse by Ellen...I forgot her last name. :S I've never read very many of her books because I thought they were too...something. But I read Impulse, and was fascinated by it. I cried at the ending, actually.

The only part about this one I didn't like was the heroine. A lot of people predicted it would be her, but she just never grew on me.

I'm about halfway through Still She Haunts Me by Katie Roiphe (I probably butchered her last name, but I'm too lazy to get up and check). It's amazing.

Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh.
It was really quite immense. Some bits (okay...most of it) were utterly uncomfortable reading, some bits shocked and disturbed me beyond belief. Some parts were thoroughly disgusting. But I think if a novel can make me feel that strongly, then it's a good sign rather than a bad one. For anyone who doesn't know, it's a book about junkies/addicts (of one form or another) set in Edinburgh. And considering the subject matter, it can also be surprisingly hilarious. Probably in a bad way. I was laughing at stuff and it was really appalling but yeah. Amazing book. Everyone should read it, if only for the bits that are written in Scots.

The Whalestoe Letters by Mark Z. Danielewski.

I expected something much more interesting, since it was a sort of continuation of the Apendix II in which Johnny posted the letters his mother sent him, but it was more fast-paced and not as entretaining as House of Leaves.

I've finished Candide by Voltaire this afternoon.
It's one of the books that was mentioned in the World Lit course I took last year and I've been meaning to read it since and now seemed like the right time to do so. It was interesting, but somewhat disappointing because although it was funny the plot was repetitive and I'd expected Voltaire to be more witty. Maybe it's better in French. Short and relatively easy to read, it's a book worth reading, just not life-changingly awesome.
