I would say I'm a little bit of a fic snob. I'm better than I was, because I never used to read fanfiction, as a rule. Now, it depends on the author, and I don't even care too much about the fandom as long as it's written well.

I am fussy about grammar and that, but I don't think that makes you snobbish fic-wise. It isn't unrealistic to want a story that makes sense. One thing I am a little snobby about is characters. If it's that kind of story that has perfect characters, usually scene or whatever, I won't read it. I have high standards when it comes to characters.

I don't really consider myself a fic snob. In my opinion, as long as it's written well and I'm interested in the plot, I'll read it. Most of the fandoms that I'm into aren't even on Mibba, so I have to go to LJ for them anyway.

I'm a huge grammar nazi though. Bad grammar makes me twitch lmfao

YES. So many good plots are murdered by bad grammar and chatspeak. It's sort of depressing.

Besides that, I'll read pretty much anything, as long as it's clean of cliches (this sentence is a total paradox...but I'm not changing it). At least for the most part. I do admit I sometimes crave those soppy boy meets girl love stories... Rolling Eyes

For me...it really depends what fandom I'm reading in, and whether there's actually enough fics in it for me to afford to be a fic snob. For instance, in smaller fandoms, I'll take pretty much whatever I can get, wheras when I'm reading FBR or MCR fics or something like that, I'm a big snob, because there's lots of them. XD

I noticed I really have become more picky. First off, to even get me to click on a story is if it has a proper title, such as proper capitalization, and the title isn't one of those ten words long titles. Oh, also a short description. I'd like to know even a brief preview on what I'm about to click on.

And then, they must have a long description - not long, but I'm just referring to what Mibba calls the "long description" section when you create a new story. It's also like, a special treat if they have a nice banner and original layout, but the summary overrides all. Then, the story has to have proper spacing, where I can actually tell the paragraphs apart. And like a previous post on here, proper grammar, etc. I'd usually just quickly skim the first chapter to see if it's decently written, then I'll give it a shot at reading (: And in that same post, yeah, as I grew as a writer, I was able to distinguish between a good and badly written story. I go back to Quizilla sometimes and totally go "Oh my God, I used to write and read things like that?" and I don't know. It's definitely an improvement.

If all those things are present (or most), then I pretty much read everything (: Except those Twilight and Harry Potter-esque ones.

Does this only include fanfiction on Mibba? Because I don't read any fanfic on here - after ten years of reading and writing it, it's gotten old - but if it's not exclusively fanfic, and original too, then I am here to say that I am definitely a fic snob. If the first line doesn't get me, I don't stay. If I wait too long for the action to start, I hit the back button.

This is me when I start out in a fandom, esp. if it's new. I'd read anything and everything. As time progresses I weed out the badfics and get to watch out for authors.

There are some exceptions, like writing that it less than exceptional but the plot serves like crack, like you can just sink your teeth into it lol.

I don't read on Mibba anymore either - LJ is <3 tehe

Oh lord, my reading habits have changed so much in almost two years lmfao Bad grammar still bothers me though, mainly because it's a lot more difficult for me to focus on the content of a story if there are a ton of grammatical errors screaming out at me.

I've succumbed to the idea that I may be a complete and total fic snob. I think it's a combination of the fact that I have less amount of time to devote to reading online fic and the way that my fandom has gained popularity over the last two years, so everyone and their mom seems to write it now, so I have to sort of weed through all the bad ones to find something decent, which I didn't have to do in the past because there were literally no stories in my fandom Facepalm

Also, because I've devoted so much of my own time and energy into this one fandom, I'm a lot more receptive as to what I feel is OOC for these characters, so if I see something that seems even the slightest bit off, I'll quit reading.

I've also sort of quit reading original fiction, only because most of the online reading I do serves as a sort of research for my fandom and a means of drawing inspiration. If I have the desire to read something outside of my fandom, I'll go to one of the novels on my reading list. Sad but true.

I'm a real fic snob. I don't read fanfic unless I'm specifically asked to (ie. by a friend or for a comment swap), and there's very little on Mibba that interests me at all. I'll browse a fair bit, but there isn't much I'll subscribe to.

I think it's mostly because I don't do the thing some people do with distinguishing between online stories and stories in books, and not comparing the two. If I feel like reading anything, I'm probably going to go for quality, which means I will most likely read a book. It doesn't mean that I think people here suck or aren't as good as me- I just don't think they're as good as, for instance, Oscar Wilde, who is on my bedroom floor at the moment. If you want me to read your work more than casually, then you've got some fierce competition.

At least in part, though, I also have high standards. I think a lot of published fiction is utter rubbish, and I mostly scour Mibba and bookstores for writers who are like myself.

Oh, I know I'm a huge Fic Snob.

I generally only read fanfics on here, because if I want an original story I just find the search option entire too vague, and so I go to sites like Fiction Press or I just pick up an actual book. But for the fanfictions I read on here, they're mostly Avenged Sevenfold-related. And, because I'm incredibly lucky and there are literally thousands of A7X fanfics on here, I get to be picky. (:

The second I see that the main character was pregnant from one of the band members as the opening to the story, I click out. The second I see chatspeak, I click out. The second I see that more than one chapter is less than 500 or so words, I click out. The second I see second person -- I'm out. If the grammar or spelling is catastrophic, I never continue past the first chapter or two, though if it's just iffy, I tend to wait a few chapters and see if it's improving. I also never finish a story where the sentences are short and choppy, or always start with "She did... She was.... She crossed... She said..." or anything like that. Or if the verbs are present tense; I click out at the first few "I pace across the room," or "She laughs as she looks over at him."

And then there's just the fact that I have issues with most main characters, which makes me even more picky. I won't read a story with a character under 5'5", unless they're in a Johnny Christ fiction, and I won't read a story with a character named something like "Hope Rain Summers" or something as unique as that, unless the author somehow manages to, in the summary or first chapter, give me a plausible reason for the name choice. Oh! And then there's the stories of the meek little leads who are always abused, sexually or just physically, by family members and boyfriends. I see that and click out of the story as well, unless by some miracle it seems unique and the abuse is only in moderation. And I don't read stories where the main female is too perfectly cutesy/innocent/six-year-old-like. I just can't read a story where I despise the main character...

    ...Yeah, I'm a terrible person.

I tend to read fic only on LJ now and I'm a forgiving reader, but pretty picky. If it's hard for me to find a certain type of fic, I'll read almost anything as long as it's formatted relatively well with minimal typos and an ounce of talent. But if it's something there's a lot of, I hit back as soon as I run across anything I don't like, from an oddly worded sentence to a weird character comment.

I'm a massive fic snob and I hardly read anything on here anymore. What's weird though is that my own writing is exactly the kind of thing I downright refuse to read. XD

I don't think I'm too much of a snob, but if a story starts with fifteen lines of dialogue or a ridiculous amount of description, I probably won't continue reading. A first chapter should have a good balance, and if it doesn't, that's usually indicative of the rest of the work.
