I've read beautiful books with both Pov and tense changes. They were wonderful. However, these changes rarely occurred in the middle of a chapter and were rarely noted.

'Blonde' by Joyce Carol Oates has third person, various second person, and various first person points of view. It also has past, present, and future tense. It's necessary to the storytelling and such a good fucking book.

I haven't written anything with pov shift in a long time. Revisiting this thread makes me want to again. It can be a very interesting writing technique.

Point of view switches in the middle of a chapter make me click out faster than anything else.

I've noticed I sometimes start my stories with a short and abstract first-person dialogue in the present tense. And then the rest of the story is in third person, past-tense, following the character that the story opened with.

I'm not a big fan of the POV switch. I've just never really seen it done well.

I used to always switch POVs in my old stories but I ,now, found it very hard to do. I really don't like doing it anyways. It confuses me sometimes and I accidentally slip in the wrong POV.

But if you can do it, I applaud you!
