I write SI. I like non-glamourized SI and it's especially good to read if it's a therapy fic.

I don't like it when it's an SI and the person gives the character a personality different than theirs. If it's an SI, it's you. And that includes your flaws.

I love it when I write SI and no one even comments on the fact that it's SI. It's like they just accept Dru as a character with no problems. Cute

I seem to have a reversal SI problem. A lot of people call me Jennifer thinking my OC from ATSOHP is me, when that's not my name (though I'd like it to be) and it's not SI Think

I don't have a problem with it, I just think it's funny xD

It looks like I have 19 self-insertions, 16 of which are "therapy" fics. I had two others that I removed.

I think if you can write it well go for it. I wish I could pull it off because I would write it if I could. It's difficult and I've only seen one person pull it off really well which is of course the amazing Dru.

I think that the only problem with SI is that a lot of people write themselves into their stories without any flaws. Other than that, I don't mind. :)

I have the opposite problem XD Even though my SI stories clearly state that they're SI, no one realizes that it's me.

I'm not sure to take it as a compliment that my stories aren't obviously glamorized SI or an insult in that people aren't reading that it's SI Coffee

    Let's trade Weird

I would think that would be a compliment, because to me, completely blatant SI can be annoying. Mostly because hardly anyone can do blunt SI well.

Oh, yes. Glamorized self-insertion, I call it. It's just like a Mary Sue, only it's you and that's even worse, imo. XD

I really enjoy SI when done well and realistically. The thing that annoys me most is when authors won't admit to SI when it's ridiculously obvious. I mean, I understand that all authors write a little bit of themselves into each character, but when they do everything exactly the way you do, look like you, etc. and basically have no original aspects, just own up to it.

I think when it's done right, SI's can be great, but it seems like everyone who is actually writing them just makes themselves seem concieted. I personally can't write SI's myself, but if they're written well, I can read them.

I'm currently writing an SI story, and it's definitely one of my best active stories. The reason I like SI's is because I write to get away from my life, and when I put myself in that story, I can be whoever I want. I can look however I want, instead of the way I really look. I kinda use it as a way to feel a little good about myself, kinda like a 'hey I may not be pretty in real life, but I'm pretty in my story' type of mentality. ya know what I'm saying?

Most of the SI that I have seen are back though I've never really tried one myself besides from one assignment that I did which I did post here. If I could find a good one I doubt I would mind it that much. It might even be fun to try really.

I think that's sort of the definition of glamourized self-insertion. I think it's okay to change the character where needed in the story, but the character should retain the flaws and such of the original. Otherwise it's not really self-insertion, is it? It's the character you want to be with your name. Not a lot of self really.

I tend to subconsiously stear away, but I have found a few that I really like. Really, as long as it's not glamourising yourself, then it shouldn't really be a problem. Right now I'm actually writing a SI, a therapy one I suppose you could say, and I like it a lot more than I thought I would. I think the fact that I'm writing it myself now is making me more open to the idea.

yea I guess...then I guess it's not SI. 'Cause I'm pretty sure if I really did insert myself into a story, I wouldn't like that character. At all. No

My idea for JulNoWriMo is a SI piece and I'm honestly terrified to write it.

Not because I think it'll be bad ('cause I actually have a half-decent idea, in my own opinion.)
I know and understand myself and all of my flaws (I hope that sounds less creepy than I think it does) but... the whole idea of SI is foreign to me and it's a little scary.

SI is great when done well. But there are a thousand different ways to mess it up.

I really like my idea and SI is a huge part of it. I don't want to change it.

I think one of the things to writing SI is that you have to treat your character like a character. And when you do that, I think it comes off so much easier. Don't give your character preferential treatment, just treat them like a character. Then their point in the story and all the rest of it comes much more naturally.

I recently started writing again after about a six-month period of writer's block, and the first coherent piece that came out of it, A First, is an SI. There aren't any names, which is a habit I have when I write myself and people I know into stories, but I think it came out extremely well.

Almost all of the writing I'm doing now is SI, actually, which is extremely therapeutic for me. It's such a good way for me to explore myself and my feelings in certain scenarios.

i like SI because it helps me get a lot of things out, it helps me understand myself and grow as a writer and a person. i don't treat my character self any different than i would any other character, and it's honestly really helpful with my coming to grips with a lot of crap in my life.
