I am rather happy with killing off characters if the story fits it. I find it relatively easy.

I don't kill my characters off all the time, but every so often I do. If that makes sense.
Nine times out of ten, it's suicide in some way, shape or form. I have written a couple where death has been the cause of an accident or crime, but I just... I don't think I write them as well as I do the suicides.

I'm writing a story about a girl who is dying. She has a cruel and irreversible disease that has no cure.

I don't think I've ever killed off a character during the course of a story, though that probably won't be the case for much longer, but I've written a few stories where the characters are dealing with the death of a loved one, and one about a character who was actually dead.

edit: No, wait, I killed Mikey Way once. Shifty But it was in a fic based off The Ghost of You, so.

My readers don't hate me. XD They get annoyed with me sometimes. But I think that killing of a character just to do it is worse than killing off a character because it needs to be done.

My first story on here, when I started writing it, I planned a happy ending.....I ended up giving my main character cancer, making it terminal then having her husband pull the plug on her when she went into a coma.......that started my death obsession.

Almost all of my stories involve death - suicide mostly - or an attempt in suicide. I believe my goriest piece of death involved this girl going cannibal on this woman, and then the woman choked on her own vomit, which killed her. I wrote that for a contest and got through to the next round. :)

I kill off my characters when the story sees fit; in some fics of mine, happy endings just wouldn't have worked.

I rarely kill any characters, mind you, I rarely write chaptered stories so it would be kind of hard to write a whole death scene for a one-shot. I usualy write about the aftermath and one of my stories is about what goes on before someone dies or a terminal illness.

I almost always have death in my stories. I only have three stories that don't involve death; one is about self-harm and it hints at future suicide, one is about being choked and almost dying, and one is about a prostitute. File

I enjoy creepy shit. I know, I'm a morbid freak. Cute

I've killed a few. I think they are all suicides. I also have a lot of attempted suicides.

Oh, and emphysema. I've given a few characters emphysema.

It depends. If I write a historical fiction I tend to kill characters off more because people didn't live long back then and like 1/3-1/5 children died before reaching adulthood. I killed off a total of five characters in the main story and two more characters by the last chapter in one story I wrote that was based in egypt.
But in my stories at least one person always dies within the main story, it's just weather or not it's significant to the main character. I'm an evil author.

I've only written character death in one story, a horror thriller, because character death just doesn't tie into any of my other stories, and I'm not going to throw it in just for the hell of it. It's emotionally draining for me to write character death and the aftermath, so it's something I have to be in a certain mindset to write well.

That being said, I don't like when writers use character death as a quick means of getting rid of a character they've lost interest in writing or as a way to kill off a band member's significant other.

Generally I avoid character death because a good ninety-five per cent of the time, it's done to get rid of a character the writer doesn't care for or as a cheap ploy to notch up the angst, which I would find so much more acceptable if it weren't for the fact that the angst is just sort of there to be angsty. Like it doesn't further the plot, it's not leading to any character development, someone just wanted some angst.

There's also a new annoying tendency for writer's to off character to show that the villian/plot is SRS BUSINESS that should be taken SRSLY, GUISE! SRSLY! Because all of the other horrible stuff that's happened up until now didn't effectively convey this?

I love killing off a beloved character at the end of the story. Or if the whole story basically centers around one character, I usually kill them off at the end. Of course, I don't just do it without any rhyme or reason, but if death is appropriate and realistic than hell yeah.

I've only killed off one character so far; by suicide. And another one of them is about to die by—I guess—also suicide, but a self-destructing, slow one.
