Writing About Drugs

One of my characters falls into a heroin addiction. I know nothing of the subject, honestly.
Also, I have a character that begins liking the cocaine a little too much.
Can anyone help me out? Any of you know a thing about coke or brownstone?

I know it's been a while since you posted this, but I have first- and second-hand experience with both (especially blow) and then some, so if you'd still like any help, feel free to PM me. :)

I've had a lot of pot use in my recent MCR fics. I kind of use it as something they [usually Frank and Gerard as a couple] bond over. I've only really started writing about pot since my first time using it, and I guess I use my own experiences with it as a kind of reference for whatever I'm writing.

I am writing some stuff with harder drugs, stuff I've never even been near, but it's much less focused on the use of drugs and more focused on the relationship between the characters that do it. If that makes sense.

I tried to write about it once, and it was a decent piece, but I felt like it was understated and there was no practical way to make it accurate.

I've never done any type of recreational drugs in my life, but I did grow up in a very drug-heavy environment (which is the main reason why I will never do drugs), so I'm very familiar with most of the aspects of drug use. From what I've been told, when I include it in my writing, it comes across as being realistic.

The only thing I've ever had to research when it comes to drugs would be the actual feeling of and sensations that come along with being high on different substances (because I've never done anything), and I think I've only written one story where the main character was actually getting high. Everything else of mine that involves drug use is told through the perspective of someone not under the influence watching someone they care about participate in recreational drug use, because that's a perspective that I know all too well.

I've never written about drugs and I doubt that I ever will. It's just not something that interests me.
